I love how when you're in a band and trying to think of a picture to take, it's always, "let's go stand around and look casual but not really casual in front of an abandoned building or in an alley." My band was always like that, too.

Can't find many current ones because he changes it all the time. This is how it is now:

Awesome fun to play, would be better if he could tune it though :(

    Why can't he tune it?
And how do those octobans sound? Do they project?

I don't know why he can't tune it. We tried to tune them for recording awhile ago, but he rarely replaces the heads and doesn't seem to understand the importance of tuning and doing the bottom heads as well. I'd help him but I don't understand enough about how to do it properly myself.
Given that, the octobans project about as well as you might think given hes had them for 2-3 years and has never replaced the heads or put a lot of effort into tuning. Pretty dead.
He has two higher ones that he used to use with them as well, you can see them unattached at the top of the pic.

Oh. Well in my opinion, knowing how to tune your drums well is just as important as the quality of your drums and the quality of your playing. Who cares if you have an expensive, nice kit if it sounds like shit? I think you should portray it to him in that fashion and he might begin to take it more seriously.

First step to learning a bit about tuning is watching some Bob Gatzen videos. He gives a lot of helpful insight into developing your drum sound.

Also, tell him to sit down and listen to some of his favorite drummers. I like to have an idea of the sound I want to achieve.

So learn how to tune drums and tune them for him. Out of tune drums not only are a bad reflection of him, but of the band he's playing with.
