seriously, I love his music, but wow can it make me depressed sometimes! Anyone else think that maybe SW might have some suicide/girls hate him/life sucks issues?
He is quite a happy person if I remember his words correctly. We addressed this in some interview I found out recently and posted on dt.net.
Its pretty screwed up that he actually has that power with his music. Its amazing that he can do that, even if the song doesn't have lyrics *ie, bornlivedie, Light Mass Prayers, Moonloop*
Yeah, in the Delicious Agony interview, the interviewer addressed this, and Steven said something to the effect of "I'm actually a really happy person in real life, and the reason is that all this melancholic stuff is a massive outlet for me. If I didn't have music as an outlet, I'd probably be exactly like my music makes me out to be. But in reality, I'm always happy and I'm enjoying myself a lot right now "
I can confirm this NOT to be true :P At least the guys showing up to the gigs I went to (Antwerp, Paris) pretty much all have girlfriends with them. I'd say it's pretty evenly distributed.
As Synapsys said, he's a pretty happy guy... and I think JustJen already covered the 'girls hate him' issue.
Whenever I go to see PT or even Riverside, there's always hot 'mainstream' looking chicks. Very weird for me, but I like it.
probably pretty depressed as he is 37 or so and not married yet. Either because he can't find a woman or he is a closest gay
The line at the men's room at the Philly PT show was at least, I shit you not, 5x longer than the women's room one at intermission. I've NEVER seen that before.
well, he IS pierced on his right ear... I thought he was gay at first, when I saw an interview of his before hearing any of their stuff.
PT is one of the few prog bands my girlfriend will actually listen to, so there's got to be something about them...
hahahha, i'm having a hard time understanding the piercing convo, isn't that the oldest cliche that hasn't mattered in decades?
PT are a lot more girl-friendly than DT. When all is said and done, PT are a Rock band and DT are a Metal band. Kinda like how Mikael describes Opeth, they are a death metal band with mellow parts. edfit - I love this board layout/style a lot btw. 8)
pt is a lot more electronica than any other band i listen to, so they are girl friendly in taht sense, non of the macho riffs.
I like PT because the music is calculated and subtle, rather than bombastic and overbearing like a lot of the stuff I listen to. Also, lyrically, SW is my favourite.
SW said in an interview on Rockpalast that he is in fact a happy person, but finds it easier to come up with song ideas and lyrics when he is feeling depressed (much like me, actually). He is among my favourite songwriters and I find his lyrics fascinating.
He reminds me a lot of Kurt Cobain on stage. He has his head down and he's all "moody and troubled" and quite teenage-angsty... However, in person he seems quite grown up and level headed and mature. Also quite uninterested in my "STEVEN WILSON I'VE SEEN YOU TWO TIMES!" speech. Miserable sod.
