It's a shame that it has been watered down with metal filth to create the metalcore genre, but anyway, would any of you be so kind as to recommend me some good bands. I like really good stuff like Refused and also straightforward tough guy hardcore like Blood In Blood Out.

Bad Brains? Evergreen Terrace is sweet.

Dunno, most of the Hardcore I listen to is just music with slight Hardcore influences - Thrice and such.

EDIT - Is your sig referring to me?

Bad Brains is good but they are back when hardcore still had that punky crossover sound, I'm looking for stuff that is pure HARDCORE!

    bleh

you're kind of a faggot though

also the movement of pop punk/hardcore is pretty fun too. it's got its feet firmly in the hardcore roots, stuff like a day to remember and set your goals.

Holy shit hardcore is my genre of choice too

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for but get these albums:

Converge - Jane Doe (classic mathcore album a necessity for any hardcore fan)
NoMeansNo - Sexmad (progressive hardcore very similar to the refused imo)
    NoMeansNo - Wrong
Norma Jean - Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child
At The Drive-In - The Relationship of Command

Dammit, this thread once again demonstrates that either there's no hardcore music in between the classics like Black Flag and modern post- or metal- hybrids (or Refused), or else 5/8 just doesn't know shit about it. I'm downloading that Raised Fist album. Hopefully that'll be what I'm looking for.

Both Fugazi and Big Black are pretty in between hardcore and post.-hardcore.

the thing is that he the op says he wants real hardcore but not hardcore thats punky but real hardcore is the punky hardcore. Everything after hardcore punk is called post-hardcore or some kind of hybrid.

tough guy hardcore is extreme music for idiot racist jocks. Case and point my only friend that likes the garbage was a star basketball player in high school, loves to start fights with random people for little to no reason, and told me he was buying a rifle the night baraka got elected.

Judging music by its fans again, I see

EDIT: @NinjaEater, I'm not saying I want something in between hardcore and post-hardcore. I'm saying I want stuff that came after the originators but is still pure hardcore. In most genres, there is an expansion and development of the sound (as opposed to completely reinventing the sound into something new or hybridizing it with something else). I assume hardcore is the same, but I've never been able to figure out who those bands are.

thats because they don't exist bands the experimental hardcore bands during the 80s are even called post-hardcore, noise rock, or progressive punk/hardcore. hardcore and hardcore punk mean the same thing.

Not exactly judging it by their fans, I've heard quite a few tough guy bands and haven't liked any of it. What I'm saying is that the music only appeals to those types of people.

my friend really likes Black Flag and i just asked her and she recommended Rudimentary Peni, Negative Approach, Urban Waste, Necros, and Deep Wound

but yeah i know nothing about that kind of thing. i heard Black Flag and thought they were awful so i never investigated it further :\

Cool, thanks. I've heard Rudimentary Peni and thought it was too sparse, but I'll check out some of the others. Of course, it's entirely possible that this just isn't my genre (I've never gone truly head over heels for any punk stuff, though I enjoy a lot of it)

Bingo. Misfortunes is going to be my #1 album of 2008. Saw them twice this year. They might take a little while to get into but in this case that's because repeated listenings are rewarded. www.myspace.com/thisishell or search This is Hell on LastFM. (I really like Soldiers too...they're for the I'm-really-pissed-off-moods, whereas This is Hell caters to the brooding/introspective mood)

    Also Verse. www.myspace.com/verse

Have you heard the band Tragedy? Are you be looking for something that maintains the punky feel of the classics pushes it to a new (heavier, more modern) level? They are real HARDCORE (no, not tough guy hardcore either)!

edit: read your other post and see that is in fact what you're looking for

Here are samples of their first album from 2000:

    http://www.rhapsody.com/tragedy/tragedy

I like that album, but I think most people prefer Vengeance.

The presenter of the punk and hardcore show on Triple J was gushing about Gorilla Biscuits coming to Australia in the next week or so, and played some and I wasn't really a fan. Might try some of the other more post-hardcore recs in this thread though :tup

Not really, they sound like a terrible "fun" version of Refused or ATDI or something. This is traditional hardcore:
