This is not a joke. According to Sam, who's the only 5/8er that's friends with him on Facebook (he deleted everyone else), Hanatarashi (aka StagnantDisplay)'s Facebook wall is plastered with RIP messages and they look really serious and legitimate. Sam has messaged one of his friends and is waiting on a response. I'll keep you all updated with whatever new information Sam tells me. Update: TheNeat (my son) messaged a girl who was really good friends with Hanatarashi and apparently he died of heart failure on August 5, 2010. Please leave your condolences, memories, and whatever else in this thread. More details from Austin's cousin via Sam: "Austin died on Thursday, August 5th 2010. He died of acute aortic dissection probable connective tissue disorder probable Marfans syndrome and nobody saw it coming...I am Austin's cousin so you were right to ask me. We had a funeral for him on Sunday the 15th. We are all still in shock. We can't wait to see him again someday..." National Marfan Foundation
I can't believe this. I was just thinking about him a couple of minutes before ohgar told me on IRC. I hope it's not true, but it seems like it is. Fuck.
If anyone could search around for any news about Austin Kerswill, that'd be great. Sam and I have found nothing, but Sam still has no doubt in his mind it's true. I believe Sam because I doubt any Facebook joke would be as elaborate as he is saying it looks, but if you want to hold out hope, I don't blame you. Fucking Christ. He was 18.
I've looked around a bit, but haven't found anything. Fucking hell. Austin was one of my closest internet friends. I'll miss talking to him about Bethany Cosentino's cat.
iirc, he's been around (as StagnantDisplay) at least since the DT.net days, right? He doesn't post a whole ton but as we can see here clearly most people on the forum know or at least know or recognize him since he was a pretty stand-out guy with his tastes/opinions/posts.
I didn't know him well at all, but I definitely liked the guy. Sam's telling me all these things about him that make me wish I had known him better. Apparently he was a great poet, but had 0 faith in his abilities. Shame. I just looked at one of his poems (it's in his Facebook notes and you can view it without being friends with him) and parts of it are absolutely brilliant. I wish I had seen it before so I could have told him.
I wouldn't feel comfortable posting it here without his family's permission. But just go on Facebook and type in his name (it's in an earlier post).
Well damn, I had some interesting conversations with this dude in IRC and I enjoyed reading some of his posts. If this is true it's a real, real shame. I hope he's alright, but if not, I hope he's happy, wherever he is. RIP.
I tried, all that came up was his info, which only gave his school. can't click anything else. Well I guess you'll just have to wait.
Well, Sam's going to bed (it's pretty damn late/early in Australia). He'll be up in about 5 hours and will let me know if he gets a message back. Bear in mind Sam is 100% sure this is true; he's just waiting to find out how it happened.
TheNeat (my son) messaged a girl on last.fm who was really good friends with Hanatarashi, and she confirmed that he died of heart failure on August 5, 2010. RIP
I'm really hoping this isn't true EDIT: fuck ... Not that we would've known about someone's private medical conditions anyway, but heart failure at 18? Completely horrible. RIP, you were a good dude.
Holy fuck that's messed up. This is really shocking me. by the way, i remember that he had some sort of disease, which according to him (as far as i remember from a post he made directed to me) was the reason why he looked so strange. anyone know anything about that, and if it might have to do with his death? edit: oh yeah i guess what elmo said
The most serious complications of Marfan's are heart/heart vessel related and could have caused it, especially more likely that his friend said "heart failure". Damn.
From talking to him a bit in IRC I remember him being really nice and an interesting guy... It's so depressing that this had to happen to him at such a young age. RIP
Goddammit. I hardly knew him but I remember he had a great sense of humor. What is it with members of this board suddenly dying? RIP, bro.
