Obviously going to be a band that'll attract a lot of hate for its silly name and willingness to embrace a very unfashionable sub-genre from the past, and another which is causing many a twisted pair of knickers in the present... but whatever, I like them.
nu-metal/rapcore honestly needed to wait a few more years for djent. I personally really thought the nu-metal bass style with gothy low-note guitar leads was a short-lived innovation that created great atmosphere. I remember how i used to hate POD's "youth of the nation" as a song but couldnt help but love the dark instrumentation
The lyrics are laughable, but that's in good keeping with nu metal and metal in general, so whatever. A solid release.
Song in the OP reminds me so much of Concealing Fate as it begins. Oh, and this shit pretty well sucks.
dude fuck yeah i love john browne good reference. renaissance music kicks serious ass http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Browne_(composer)
This band is doing its job perfectly. Also turns out that like another great trollband, their drummer is jazz trained.
if you're suggesting that the purpose of this bands existence is merely to rustle jimmies, that's the silliest idea i think i've ever heard
Come on, man. Come on. What I'm saying is that this band is bound to make metal douches angry, whatever they do. They fact their doing it with sincerity only makes it better. They more they do, the happier I am.
If you've ever seen anyone trying to defend Limp Bizkit anywhere on the internet, you'd have got this reference.
i gave the ep a good 3 or 4 listens today. pretty disposable stuff, extremely weak rapping, insipid lyrics, uninspired browne rip-off riffing with nothing special going on in the rhythm department. Cold Shoulders is the only song where the formula comes together with any conviction. its a pity cos the idea is fantastic but the execution by the band fails at every level
IMA BAD BOI LYRICIST I actually agree with DOGSHIT and Klonere. by far the most note-worthy track is cold shoulder. but nobody knows who the fuck John Browne is so they can rip him off for all I care, Djent is more than just a niche sub-genre anymore. the riffing style is solid and the more bands that emulate it, the better djent will be. What makes me a little concerned is how they only managed to tack on one more track (New Age, probably my second favorite despite its simplicity) onto the ep after the other 3 or 4 have been on youtube for around a year. none of the other ones were changed, rerecorded, or remastered either. Really makes me question their ability to capitalize on the momentum which theyre probably lucky to have gotten so far. Writing more songs will equal better songwriting which will hopefully equal better lyrics (not all of the present ones are terrible, give them some fucking credit. cold shoulders lyrics are thoroughly fine) and more songs as competent as Cold Shoulders which would prompt taking Hacktivist more seriously as a band. also white frontman has a completely solid scream to only be using it for three lines in one song. it's metal. I dont think your fan base will be too divided.
