From all the actual quotes in that article, Hawkins merely says that God is not necessary for the universe to come into the being given new theories. That's very different from asserting with confidence that God did not create the universe, as the headline seems to suggest.
It's also a lot different from saying "there is no god" which is what all the jesus-fags are ranting about regarding this. Yahoo comments says it all. It's depressing how stupid a large part of this country is.
It's just another media-generated story. Headlines like that, even if misleading, are bound to draw a large audience.
Why do christians have this obsession with everything coming from somewhere and asserting that everything's got a beginning and an end? I could much more easily accept the universe as eternal/infinite (granted, it is not something I could visualize) rather than as something finite, created by a mystical being.
"Just like our electronic devices do work only when they are powered by batteries and AC outlets. Gods power is behind the uncontrollable processes and designs going on in our body and in the universe at large. Once his power is taken away at this moment, everything in the universe will crumble instantly. God is the ultimate power house powering everything from our heart beat to the formation of stars and galaxies." lol.
"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist," Sounds pretty confident to me.
they have to convince themselves that god is almighty and all-powerful. if they accepted that god wasn't responsible for all this shit that a bunch of old dudes wrote thousands of years ago then they would feel sillier than they already do.
He's saying that laws such of gravity allow for spontaneous generation and the creation of a universe from nothing. I'm really curious as to how he came to this conclusion, though
God could not have created anything because God was created by man. God/Allah/Buddah/Satan etc. are superstisions that have been modified over thousands of years and adapted to control the gullible masses at any given time. I'd love to see the expression on a suicide bomber's face as he realises too late that his 77 virgins are all cheeseburger munching American lardasses playing Warhammer in their bedrooms.
While we're on the subject of God, here's a philosophical question. If God is all powerful, could he create something so heavy that he couldn't lift it? If he couldn't lift it, does this mean he isn't all powerful?
wow, you know i never really thought of it that way. do you have any more short and easy-to-understand sayings as to why I convert to the ways of knowledge and reason?
Stephen Hawking seems pretty dumb after I read the article. he should just deny the existence of a god. you know like smart people.
so does that mean someone is retarded for believing in something that is omnipotent but it's not actually omnipotent?
nop nop from a human perspective, does it matter what an omnipresent and immortal being that had a hand in the creation of the universe can bench press?
