Cool Spot wasn't as bad as expected, based on the premise, but it still wasn't any good. Virgin had their hands in a string of better than you would expect licensed games - also did the Mega Drive Aladdin game, and The Lion King.
I liked it, but the platforming wasn't up to scratch, and let's not forget that the story was written already, all the art was designed, etc.
Virgin Interactive's Aladdin was the reason Nintendo bought Rare to create something revolutionary for graphics and make Donkey Kong Country. Shigeru Miyamoto preferred the hand-drawn animation and insisted the design team to use that approach for Yoshi's Island, a decision that the company didn't appreciate. They compromised their ideas for Yoshi Story: computer animation with a hand-drawn flavor.
