I think they are just hammering in some of the reasons why Cersei could never rule and perhaps why

Littlefinger ends up leaving King's Landing, or at least trying to find his own lands to be lord of?

Could be... I was complaining more about the actual dialogue and acting in that particular scene.. But, yes, it does make sense when you put it like that.

Your question is kind of addressed in episode 2. It is handled in a different way than in the book, and in a way that makes less sense IMO.

best ep yet? i loved the shit out of almost every single scene.

alas, imma be mostly an entire ep behind everyone, since i have to wait and download after, and my sis-in-law only has sunday nights off, so we'll be watching each ep a whole week behind. :\

i think i'll just cheat thought and watch them ahead of sunday every week. :eyes:

Yeah I hadn't really thought about it, but I totally see what you're saying and yes his desire to keep her a secret is a big plot point because it shows just how much Tyrion is afraid of and traumatized by Tywin (because of what he did to Tysha). Tyrion is extremely fond of Shae and is worried that if Tywin finds out about her it will end badly for her (or if Cersei finds out she'll use her as leverage against him.) So yeah it totally matters in the grand scheme of things.

yeah i was confused about that.

thought they were in a different hideout until he mentioned Ned Stark sleeping in that bed. this is probably the one thing in this ep that doesn't jive with me. but we'll see where they go with it.

also, reading around the net a bit, it seems that a lot of people didn't "get" the Cersei/Littlefinger exchange.

she wasn't being rash and ordering his death because he offended or threatened her.

Little finger said "knowledge is power".

she orders her men to slit his throat.

she tells them not to, to let him go.

    to turn around.

    to walk away.

    to close their eyes.

she then tells Littlefinger "POWER is power".

she was giving him a demonstration of this.

why is that so difficult to grasp?

yeah I dunno why that's the case, but IMO the real takeaway from that scene is that Cersei is incredibly short-sighted and just flat-out wrong b/c they both know she can't afford to really kill him and he gets to just walk away like a boss so what did she really prove in the end?

Her flaws as a "leader"? Allowing one Stark to be beheaded, letting one slip away (Arya), and only having Sansa in her possession.

However I am behind in the literature, so it is just my .02

I did enjoy Tyrion's exchange of words with Cersei though.

I think the main problem people had with it is that the Littlefinger of the books wouldn't let Cersei know that he knew. Knowledge is only power in certain situations. As for me, I don't mind the scene because there have to be some scenes involving Littlefinger on the show, and you can't just have him smirking silently with everything planned in his head like in the books.

Littlefinger already knew, in the books.

I'm pretty sure by the time Littlefinger mentioned it to Cersei in that scene it was already a pretty wide-spread rumor (Joffrey had heard about it for example) so it wasn't like LF was revealing that he knew some well-guarded secret, he was simply taunting her with it and trying to make her squirm wondering if all he had heard was the rumor or if he knew more concrete info.

They are definitely bringing Littlefinger more into the politics of King's Landing as otherwise his character has nothing to do for a couple of seasons. Same thing as Jamie having any screen-time at all this season

At the risk of sounding like a snob, people who are too stupid to understand an exchange as simple as that probably shouldn't be watching the show. Oh wait, there are boobs, I forgot.

    Zorbo

He doesn't, really, he just thinks Stannis is a cold asshole and that no one likes him; as such, that's all the entitlement he feels he needs.

100,00 troops ain't nothin to fuck with either, so maybe he's right.

so it seems to me like daenerys has the most valid claim to the throne, followed by stannis, and everyone else is just fighting for the power with no real reason

imo the sex was good in that episode:

-theon sex showed how fucking cocky he is, how he talks himself up and has super insecurity problems before he got shot the fuck down by his dad
(it was also in the book--worse in the book even as theon is perhaps even more deplorable, and i was surprised they kept it in the show, where theon is generally more humanized)

-in the whorehouse, we assume his observation/eavesdropping is one of littlefinger's primary ways of gathering information, i suspect, plus we get a bit of creepy voyeurism before a great, similarly creepy speech from him
-mel/stannis sex will, of course, affect things down the road and is absolutely necessary

so i don't really see a problem this ep like lots of people have. i think there was much more useless sex in the first season, and so far i've felt that all in s2 has been justified well enough...

also, the whorehouse is a more important locale in the second book/season anyway (it already has proven to be, with the baby killing and such), so i think it's important to establish the hierarchy/way things work there.

ros has basically become a stand-in/fusion of two characters from the books.

but the cum dripping was prolly a bit too much lol

You said it yourself, some shit in the books happens differently from the show. Discussing the differences freely outside of spoiler tags is spoiling the books, no?

The people that are being called out for not using spoiler tags are only discussing subject matter from the books that has been covered by the show already so it's not the same thing at all.

But you're directly explaining what happens in the show vs. what happens in the books. Those are spoilers for the books.

I'm not arguing really. I've got no problem with using spoiler tags. However I don't really get the logic behind it as I'd think if someone really gave a shit about having the books spoiled then they would just read the books first instead of watching a show that is going to spoil like 99% of what happens in the books.

I didn't think I'd enjoy the books until I started watching the show. Also, I have a ton of shit to read first before I start on those books. But people don't really need to justify their reasons to you, no offense.

Guys seriously, this is the SHOW thread--not the book thread. Book spoilers or changes from the books still need tags. Why did that suddenly get thrown out the window on the previous page?

It's not an event of any particular relevance in the books, only a side detail really, whereas they're obviously putting more importance on it in the series. Don't get so damn butthurt, guys.

The logic is that this is the thread for the show and not the books. So people who only watch the show shouldn't have to worry about being spoiled. They have a right to participate in this thread without fear of someone spoiling it for them.

Nobody's butthurt, we just don't want shit from the books spoiled. Any of it. At all. Not even small details. Plus, it's a rule on the site. Why is that so hard to comprehend?

I didn't spoiler tag extremely minor Theon thing up above (how one scene of his is vaguely different in series than in book) because I tend not to think I should spoiler tag things that are essentially the same in the book and series.

It was also relating to sex, where I think it's somewhat valuable for non-book readers to know what's in the source material and what's being added for shock value or some other purpose.

BUT to be safe, and to all the newish posters in this thread (Russel, JEFF SLY) general rule of thumb: if you're gonna use the world "book" use a spoiler tag.

I think that's a good way to be safe prolly.

Yeah honestly though this has been discussed in this thread already. I wanted no book discussion at all but benhagy said that would hinder the discussion for book readers so we compromised and allowed them with tags.

This last page seemed to forget all that.

Seriously though dev, wtf @ your 5 books comment re: Dany.

You seriously didn't think that was a MAJOR spoiler for the books and show?
