Haven't read the books, but I'm looking forward to this. I like the idea of a fantasy series that is about Machiavellian political stuff instead of another retread of the LOTR formula - at least that's the impression I've gotten of this. I'm sure there is magic and battles and all that but it doesn't seem like the main focus. And the cast is good.

wait, the series starts then, or just that 15 min teaser thing?

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. It's a lot more realistic and brutal than any fantasy I've read.

The magic is present but just barely (especially in the first book/season). The biggest fantasy element in the story is the fact that the seasons last for years at a time.

The 15 minute teaser is at the beginning of April (the 3rd?).

2 hour premiere on the 17th.

Apparently not a 2 hour premiere though. That was an error on the part of HBO Canada. It's just one episode.

Yeah, which is kind of lame but who even cares.

I rewatched all of those new videos earlier, and I'm feeling a bit like I need this shit now.

So who will be watching the 15 minutes preview of the first episode tonight? I kind of want to resist and keep it all for the premiere, but I'm pretty sure it's the first thing I'm gonna do when I get home from work. Also, some TV critics have received the first 6 episodes for them to review, so what are the odds of them leaking?

I'll be watching it, for sure.

As for the odds of them leaking, could happen, but I still doubt they will, and it seems to rarely happen.

Yeah I don't think tv screeners leak very often, but I guess you never know.

No professional TV critic would ever risk their career for the sake of leaking something.

What really sold me was that shot of the blue eyed dealie rising up behind the douchey snow patrol fella. I was watching it alone in my apartment and actually went "WHAAAAAT" out loud. Also, very good decapitation to running time ratio.

I'm fine with her being thin.

Her character originally fell too easily into the "fat women are bitter and shrewish" trope, imo.

There have been some curious reviews. Most have been varying degrees of appreciation, some have been more reserved in their criticism, some have been imo quite condescending, and some have just been bizarrely written. I suppose I sort of expected this, it being fantasy and all.

Yeah the vast majority have been positive, sometimes overwhelmingly so.

Even the negative ones had some good things to say, while a few debased it almost purely on it being fantasy.

Mo' Ryan's review was the only negative one I've seen that was well-expressed and probably fairly true. It also was only like 1/2 negative, and in the podcast she did with some WiC people, she seemed quite positive with the show despite her negative feelings toward some of the earlier episodes (she LOVED episode 5, for example).

But the fact that Sepinwall is so aboard definitely does make me pretty happy.

That, and the 5 new scenes that were just released via Entertainment Weekly got me pretty stoked.

    Sunday night, mangs.

I've got a big exam coming up in 10 days (that is one of the exams that will allow me to go work as a doctor in the US) that I am spending all of my spare time studying for at the moment, and then med school finals 2 weeks after that, so I might just not watch the first 4 episodes, and then watch them all in one go after my exams are over and I am free. It is going to be a LOONG month, and I've been waiting for this for so damn long now, but I think it will be worth it.

Enjoy it guys! I really hope that it gets awesome ratings because I want this to continue until the end. Not only do I think that this book series will end up being my absolute favourite series of all time, but I think the TV show has the potential to do that also, so fingers crossed!

They did it. It's Westeros on the screen. Some minor quibbles here and there, but overall very satisfying and up to my expectations. Can't wait til next week!

    enjoyed very much.

Arya didn't have a single line, and yet completely killed it.

Jon Snow...i am hesitantly excited that he will actually live up to his badassery in the book.

and of course Peter Dinklage OWNED as Tyrion. slayin' wenches like it's 999AD (or whatever).

also LOL at TV-MA FOR ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING POSSIBLE.

This was pretty great. First show since Lost or BSG that's going to have me aching for the next episode on a week by week basis.
