best is a wired 360 controller. pretty much every game has come out on windows since 2007 has had special compatibility with it, where if you're using it it'll even change the button prompts to be 360 controller buttons.
If anyone ends up getting this let me know how the performance is. Beta was incredibly sluggish, was wondering if they nailed out those issues for the release.
Mine is out for delivery now. I'll probably regret having bought this until they fix everything, which, if they support the game as they did FFXI, they will.
Core i7 860 8gb PC12800 DDR3 ATI HD5870 I get 30-60 fps always depending on the number of players on the screen. Hardware mouse is now in the game, and the UI is MUCH smoother. The fps is MUCH better than in beta. As for gameplay, it's still about the same, but slightly more refined. I'm liking the game quite a bit. Unfortunately, it's depressingly aware this is still beta. But on the good side of things, if they polish this to FFXI standards, holy FUCK this game will be great. edit: I play in 1600x900 windowed, 2xAA, double buffer, filtering highest, quality high, shadows off. A SS of me after switching from Pugilist to Lancer.
Damnit, I am so tempted to pick this up. Aside from the lack of pvp my biggest issues were performance/smoothness. I am running a corei7 OC'd at 4.0, 6 gig 2000 ram, and a gx 480 but was still getting significant slowdown at decent settings. I'll probably give it a few weeks before I break down and buy it.
Even though my comp can def handle it, the game just feels like it was made for consoles, there is a decent chance I will get this for ps3 when it comes out. Bugs should be pretty much nailed out by then too.
It's indeed a bit awkward right now for the keyboard due to the hotkeys for menus, and how you have to go about accessing things. However, if they tweak it to be more like ffxi, then it'll be fine.
So I'll probably grab this for PS3 as long as they aren't ridiculous about the monthly fee this time. FFXI was fun for a little while but being such a time-consuming grind never really justified the fees.
maybe it's just too late at night but i can barely read that : o it's got seriffs but there's a tiny black border around all the letters, which just makes it hard to read but you can probably mod that anyway
Worse at the moment as going from 20-60 fps often is worse than 30 solid, in addition, it's quite obviously still a long ways from where it should be. However, if anyone ever played FFXI from US release until a few expansions in, they should know what to expect(the game will end up pretty awesome). As for FFXI being bad, it's really only bad if you don't use the windower for macros, and if you're just shitty at video games.
I played FF11 around when it came out and it was honestly one of the blandest gaming experiences I have had. Jobs were unbalanced, finding parties was pain in the ass and soloing was near impossible after early levels plus when you finally found a party, it was likely something would go wrong in the low level zones and your party would disband almost right away and at worst you had to wait another hour to assemble a new party. The level of interactivity in the zones was poor (compared to other MMORPG's where you could actually jump, swim, dive and actually EXPLORE the world) and there weren't many places of interests and quests weren't usually even worth it and only the story missions were worth anything. The combat system was nice though and the game was definitely fun when you were able to find a good party to play with. But even so it always came down to finding a good spot to grind and I just didn't like that approach at all. I wasn't bad at the game but I'm saying there were some serious design flaws which made it a pretty poor game in my opinion, or maybe it was just too hardcore for me, I don't know.
though all that negativity aside, waiting for a ship to arrive for 12 minutes and then being on the ship for another 12 minutes must have been the blast of my lifetime. square sure knows how to immerse the players in the world, traveling needs to be long and boring. -~just shitty at video games~-
Obviously, as you apparently have zero end game experience, and thus probably didn't even make it to it.
So your argument is that you have to play until end-game (which takes hundreds of hours) to wait for the game to get good? Makes sense I guess.
lol. At the time, just like WoW, that's where all the fun was. Over time, they added a ton of things for players of all levels. FFXI near release, or even near CoP release is COMPLETELY different in terms of fun compared to now. I'd probably still play if it weren't so time consuming and nearing the end of its run.
Yeah. Thats like someone saying I CAN DO ANYTHING I CAN EVEN GO TO NEW ZEALAND TOMORROW MORNING but stays at home and scratches his dirty asshole while watching Dr. Phil. no pointed towards you
Probably should be delayed for another three years, March sounds early to me reading and looking at some of the shit posted here.
Difference is, those of us who stuck by FFXI until they finally fleshed it out to its current form know what will happen with XIV. Yes, it's pretty shitty at the moment, and the graphics engine needs a shitton of work to be viable(fps is a bit shifty), but SE does care about making the game better. That's why, despite all of XI's flaws, it's still in the top 3-4 mmo's behind, WoW, EQ, and Lineage1/2.
Shitton of Koreans play Lineage, and there's still a giant following for EQ. However, FFXI did hit something like... 1.5m subs at one time.
Well I thought just in terms of quality it would be second or something. Didn't think EQ or Lineage were still top at all. Maybe in players but not in quality. I pretty much scoff at any MMO that is not WoW or published through a MASSIVE endeavour. All come and go, WoW stays. Only thing to kill WoW will probably be their next MMO heh. Or maybe that star wars one, dont know much about that one. Alors on danse.
Old Republic might be interesting, but still no WoW killer. FFXIV will not be a WoW killer by any means, but if they hold true to their previous attempt, it will carve out an excellent niche for those wishing to have a tougher challenge. Just.. They better get on the damn ball with the fixes. lol
If they got rid of the bugs and added a damned pvp system it could be the closest thing to a WoW killer.
FFXI's PvP wasn't even all that PVP'ish(Ballista). Either way, the game revolved around a more subtle PVP approach similar to Wintergrasp, but without the direct confrontation. With the way the combat system is, I wouldn't expect to see anything much different than XI's Ballista. Okay, it really seems that people expected this game to have come out of the gate as a solid fully functional game, and for the most part, I agree. However, when NA players got FFXI, it was already out for a year in Japan with the first expansion pack out at NA release. Even then, it was far from what the game became, even in 6 months after release. I sincerely hope this game doesn't suffer the same fate as Vanguard, but as SE's pockets are much deeper than those of Sigil, I simply suggest people wait. Trust me when I say that they do know what they should do to make this game good. It's just gonna take time. Edit: Actually, one thing I don't like, is that the "auction house" system seems like a really shitty EQ bazaar marketplace thing. I may return to WoW for Cata anyway.
Still sluggish with the fixes/updates. I've also been incredibly busy with IRL, so I've played maybe an hour in the past 2 weeks.
