Anyone manage to get into the beta of this? I have been trying to figure out how the hell to get a registration key.
I have a feeling this will actually be pretty good. I won't get it, but it will probably be the second best MMO for a bit.
Oh, really? I must have looked at the website a few hours before they did. I remember there was some form to fill in that asked if you owned a FF forum or something similarly stupid. No idea how to get a key now.
You are supposed to fill out the entry forum for the open beta to get a key, silly. IF ONLY IT WASN'T SO CONGESTED WHAT THE FUCKING SHIT.
Well, I filled out the registration form this morning but never received a registration key, no clue wtf is up.
Applications for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test have been temporarily suspended. Please wait until we are ready to accept new applications and then try again
Nah its not that simple. Its 8 hrs of full exp then the next 7 hrs the rate of exp gain diminishes. That 2nd 7 hr period replenishes slowly throughout the week though and this all only pertains to exp for a certain attribute. You can change up your char's class or whatnot and get full exp in that area. they are also still tweaking the numbers to get it jsut right. Honestly, there are a bunch of really good benefits to implement a system like this, we'll see how it works out.
Waiting till I get home to start the download, but I hear it goes slow as balls so I don't think I'll be playing till tomorrow. My Square Enix ID is Bagelstein if anyone wants to add me.
DOWNLOADER HAS TIMED OUT. DOWNLOADER HAS TIMED OUT. DOWNLOADER HAS TIMED OUT. DOWNLOADER HAS TIMED OUT. DOWNLOADER HAS TIMED OUT.
I dislike the interface, and the game is really made for a gamepad. Annoys me that there really isn't an acceptable option otherwise :l, meh.. not buying this
Ok, after playing for a day my opinion has changed a tiny bit. While the game is definitely clunky and feels unfinished, there are some strong factors going for it. The environments are incredibly well made (although the game itself runs like crap so playing with graphics on the highest isn't really an option). I like the questing system a lot, reminds me exactly of star wars galaxies, they are simplistic and easy to complete, you can choose their difficulty, and are not so repetitive that they are boring. The combat is good too, but it can be a bit difficult to control camera angles because of the damned mouse cursor lag (there is no hardware mouse option). I even really like the UI of the game. Everyone is going to be complaining that the UI sucks, but the only reason for this is because it completely breaks the mold of the WoW style UI and no one is used to it. Everyone complains that every new MMO is a WoW-clone, well FFXIV certainly is not, you aren't gonna get things both ways here. All in all I'd say the important features of the game are there and are pretty well done, everything is just still incredibly rough around the edges, mostly likely a buy for me.
13001 The lobby server connection has encountered an error. Error Code: 1015 Status:0 The fuck is this shit?
UI is a throwback to fucking nintendo, it feels way too outdated- and probably shouldn't be in an MMO. Even EQ had a better UI... and it was the first 3D MMO - meh.
The UI is very final fantasy styled. It feels like a mix of classic turn based RPG with MMO. The lag and bugs in the game make it feel sluggish but once you learn it, I think its very well done.
It'd be nice if there were some things that told you what was up. I had to find out on my own about the mob levels(protip, if it's got a red icon, don't try). I've had a ton of issues trying to be a pugilist as it doesn't seem to do much of shit against fuck. And the crashes. wtf.
Geez. I have not gotten to play this yet because every time I try, there's either an update that either takes for fucking ever or times out, or I get that stupid error message after the main menu.
Here is an exercise for you guys who are having UI issues. FORGET USING THE MOUSE. No exaggeration, the only things I use the mouse for in this game are camera movement and the occasional target selection (tab targeting needs to be fixed). All the menus, interactions, and abilities are far more easily accessed by using the home button and arrow keys.
Also, another tip for patch downloads: If you are getting issues with patch downloads there is a workaround for square's shitty p2p client. You can go to CDocuments and Settings\mygames\ffxiv\downloads find the patch and go into the meta folder for it. You will find the torrent file for the patch, you can upload that into something like vuze and then put the finished files into the same directory but this time the Patch folder instead of the Meta.
I just use either a PS3 controller (you'll have to find 3rd party drivers for this) or a PS2 > USB adapter. What's Final Fantasy without a PS controller?
Ya know, thats a really good point also, the game is being released cross platform for PC and PS3. I think the controls were designed to accommodate both users, it may make more sense to use a PS controller than a mouse/keyboard.
This is the adapter i use http://cgi.ebay.com/Super-Dual-Box-...oysticks_Game_Controllers&hash=item2ea47346fc
ok... from what one of the NPCs described, I figured it was just something to talk to one of them easily without having to be in front of them... she even said "use it if you want to talk to me"
That's the Linkpearl, aka Navi from Ocarina of Time. Its a direct ripoff, but If you don't use it constantly you are going to be utterly lost when trying to follow the storyline quests.
has anyone had trouble playing this in fullscreen? i get a message that says "unable to detect directx device" works fine in windowed.
Minimizing from fullscreen crashes the game with that error. It's likely you have background applications running that are interrupting the program and causing the same effect as an "alt-tab"
