I know there are some fans here, they get mentioned once in a while. What are your favorite Elbow tracks? I want to give them more thorough consideration than I have in the past (the only song of theirs I listen to regularly is "Any Day Now").

Today at lunch I saw the whole band do a five song acoustic set on the Disney lot in front of about 30 people, really liked some of their new tunes. Especially this one (and the way it kicks up a notch around 2:30):

I saw them on MTV the other day and had never heard of them before. I was pleasantly surprised to find such a good band on a (Dutch) commercial music channel. What album do you think I should start with?

I'm really liking their new album, "The Seldom Seen Kid." The songs "Bones of You" and "Mirrorball" are beautiful.

Decent band, nothing great though, IMO.

i've always liked this group a good bit.

_asleep in the black_, their first album, is a good place to start. i haven't heard their latest but it's been getting very positive reviews, most stating it's their best album yet.

So my buddy recommended these guys to me, I am listening to "The Seldom Seen Kid," and wow. This is awesome. For fans of Coldplay, I would say. Same kind of flavor, just a great album.

After hearing Seldom Seen Kid I was underwhelmed by Asleep in the Back which is generally considered their (next?) best.

Thought they were pretty cool live, but not too much of a fan of them otherwise.

I can't make it through Seldom Seen Kid without falling asleep. "The Bones of You", "Mirrorball", and "Some Riot" are good songs though.

I really like The Seldom Seen Kid, especially An Audience With The Pope and On A Day Like This, and The Fix.

Yeah me too, I'm listening now and actually loving Grounds for Divorce, too. I think it's about time we check out another album.

Leaders of the Free World is far and away my favourite Elbow record. Station Approach, Picky Bugger, Mexican Standoff, Forget Myself, the title track... the record peters out a bit towards the end, but the first half is as good as anything that came out in '05.

Cast of Thousands is really good, too. Not as good as the two most recent albums, but some really great songs on there. Ribcage, Fallen Angel, Snooks, Buttons and Zips, real good.

"seldom seen kid" is fucking great, but "scattered black and whites" is their best song, as well as one of the most beautiful songs ever

I'm not crazy about that single but I look forward to checking out the album.

Favorite Elbow songs: One Day Like This, Forget Myself, Any Day Now, Fugitive Motel.

Single is okay. Short and sweet. Album will be excellent though. I am so excited to see if they can top The Seldom Seen Kid. Even if they release an album on the same level as Leaders of the Free World I'd be ecstatic.

Yeah, to be completely honest, I'm not feeling this album at all. The Birds, Lippy Kids, Neat Little Rows, and Dear Friends are all good tracks, but everything else hasn't hit me at all. The other tracks are very subdued or nothing special. After the great last two albums they came out with, this is a huge, huge disappointment.

Hmm. I'm listening now.. first two tracks were excellent, especially The Birds. I'm liking With Love too. Gotta pause it for a little, but will finish the album after.

The first five songs are strong, then it sort of nosedived for me.

You're right, it is kind of a disappointment. :(

I still like it though. But I was expecting a record on par with The Seldom Seen Kid.

It doesn't even come close to Kid, which I thought wasn't even as good as Leaders of the Free World.

A friend hounded me for 3 years and I finally cracked and bought The Seldom Seen Kid. Top album, the lyrics blow me away completely, especially to Starlings. Every line is perfect at crafting an image in your head that builds as the song goes along.

Pretty much the best voice in mainstream music. Fuck. Still need to dive into the back catalogue. Friends Like These destroys me like almost no other song.

    Friend Of Ours?

I don't at all like that song you posted but I'm digging a handful of their other songs on Spotify.

Fuck, yeah that's the one. I'm bad with song names as I rarely listen to the songs individually. Thinking I might just go to their first album and work my way through them.
