New thread go now. Ok, this thread isn't going to be a standard DT thread. I know some of you love spamming the shit out of them, but that's not happening anymore. Some people actually want to have legitimate discussion about the band and the upcoming album. After this post, I'm going to sift through this thread and remove anything I see as off topic or trolly (and yes I have even made a few of these posts) Any further off topic posting will be deleted.
Also tracklisting: On the Backs of Angels Build Me Up, Break Me Down Lost Not Forgotten This is the Life The Shaman's Trance Outcry Far From Heaven Breaking All Illusions Beneath The Surface
i wish they didn't give MP the satisfaction of naming their fucking album after the shitstorm that he created.
Breaking All Illusions this will be a song about MP trying to get back in DT after he got dumped from the AV7x gig.
I have the feeling that after this album drops, everyone will just kinda say "A for effort." It won't be great but everyone will give them credit for trying to break from MP's narcissistic hold on this band.
I'm just trolling here but fuck, how is "A Dramatic Turn of Events" objectively worse than "Black Clouds and Silver Linings" or "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence" Dream Theater has lame album titles and track titles. Get the fuck over it lolol
they might as well have called it Our Drummer Left And We Got A New One. srsly what's wrong with them, i thought MP was their main faggot.
My initial reaction to the album title was LOL but it's settled with me now and it's really not that bad. It is a little bit cheesy and completely lacking in subtlety, but I almost kind of like that about it. It's kinda ballsy in a way. Also the track titles are all pretty damn bearable for once, I have no idea wtf The Shaman's Trance means but they're all a huge step up from the embarrassing track titles of the last few albums. Finally, glad to see they aren't continuing in the direction of having 6 or 7 painfully long tracks per album. This COULD be pretty damn good. I'm going to try and remain optimistic.
they should just make another album like Awake now that MP is gone. 10-11 relatively short songs that are intense and heavy.
I legitimately have not listened to this band in 2 or 3 years, and actually haven't heard a single track off whatever the last album was called. Black Clouds and Silver Linings? Was that it? But I'll listen to this just to see what it sounds like without Mike.
This is the Life will be the main single, and it'll be all about how fucking sweet life is with a drummer who can play more than 3 fills. The video will have JM cruising on his yacht and Rudess in da club shredding on his morphwiz n gettin mad pussy yo
I can just see Portnoy sat at home reading the album title announcement, seething with rage at how he's missed out on that one.
If they were going for a ballsy album title, it should have just been Michael Portnoy Can Eat a Dick: You're a Doo Doo Head. "Beneath the Surface" will be about the survivor of Huron.
I like the song names. Maybe because they seem less metal. The album name... well yeah. I hope Myung wrote all the lyrics. And that he hasn't gotten as bad at it as the rest of them.
Every time a new DT album comes out, I feel like that's it. Then, a few months go by, and I wonder what I was thinking. Lots of people around the internet seem skeptical of the new album, but all I have to say is this: Remember, people, the new album is going to be void of Mike Portnoy's tough-guy bark and lyrics. It IS going to have lyrics by Myung. And 9 songs means that the song lengths will probably be a bit more digestable than they have been since God knows when.
I kinda like that format, though. Reminds me of the 70s bands, when one side would be a big epic and the other side would have good shorter songs, rather than a bunch of cookie-cutter 12-3 minute long songs.
Why the fuck aren't they releasing this on Sept. 8! That's my birthday and the same day that MP left DT. God damn it.
^ I couldn't like this more if I tried. And now that it is actually official - let me just say that this is actually one of their better album titles. It is obviously a bit tongue-in-cheek and miles beyond "Black Clouds and Silver Linings," which sounded like the name of a fucking Yanni album.
