I completely agree with what you say there... I just kinda dislike the art style, but I know the game will be amazing, and i'll be getting it on launch day.

Just out of curiosity... why would it be a miracle if they got Wise?
I mean, he's freelance now, and basically, it's "his" game. Wouldn't he WANT to do another DKC?

That's not what I was trying to say.
I wanted to say that you have to get out of the mindset that this will be the continuation of the Rare series.

And of course David Wise is a fucking god, but Yamamoto worked on Punch-out(which also had some good tunes) and the whole fucking Metroid-series. He knows what he's doing.

Yeah, i'm sure the music will be good.

I guess i'll just hope for some orchestration then, but i guess that isn't too likely?

Yup. And also on Banjo's defense: many games from the N64/PS1 era have aged horribly, even ones that get on "top x" lists all the time, like OoT and Mario 64, so even though, in hindsight, it may have relied too much on collecting, but at the time of its release, people where wowed too much by the graphics and gameplay to care.

Mario 64 is an example of doing it right though (and is a MUCH better game), sure it has a shit ton of collecting but it does it in a way that isnt nearly as irritating as BK.

for example the 100 coin stars in mario 64 were not overly frustrating since there were always more than 100 coins in a stage, in BK there were exactly as many notes as you needed to get so by the end its this awful hunt for the few or even 1 you missed and you have no idea where it is. also mario 64 was way clearer on objectives, as you start the stage you pick which star you are going after and the world rearranges to that star, a good game design tactic, in BK its just a fuck all who knows wtf to do... better figure it out etc. that just gets frustrating.

you can probably tell im not a big Rare fan by now though lol, Retro >>>>>> Rare ever was even at their best. Rare games havent aged well for the most part at all. also their port of Silent Service sucked ass.

Hey, cool that they mention that Cranky Kong is the original Donkey Kong from the first game.

    I never thought of that.

    Don't think so.
But if i remember right; Ign mentioned something about the song Aquatic Ambiance returning.. so i guess you could take it as a confirmation on the water levels.

I think Retro actually didn't build any water levels into the game, I think it was something about pacing.

Also, damn that promo video brought me back. I got so hyped after watching that back in the day.

Yamamoto made this tune [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFKkKDQxEvI"]Red Brinstar[/ame] on Super Metroid. He's not Dave Wise, but I wouldn't be exactly worried about him regarding the game's (original) OST. Now, regarding the remixes... some of them I've heard on gameplay videos have been good, but the instruments don't sound too hot, imo.

I wonder how awkward a production crew must feel when filming something totally worthless.

Also, Saber, you can't mix a serious statement with a sarcastic one, you piece of shit

Watching that gameplay vid just made me realize that the Wii's actual resolution SUCKS. Well, I mean, I knew this before, but I see that video and go FUUUUCK but then realize it will look blurry and stretched out on HDTVs. Bleh.

Yeah I know. Graphics are not everything but in this day and age when you place it next to other consoles with hidef its very very noticeable. That being said, Galaxy is gorgeous, must be very difficult hitting that right.

When I got HDTV I had to sell wii, couldn't take it that much. and not that many 9/10 games.

Or if you don't have a piece of shit HDTV.

I've never had a blurry/streched/shit looking Wii game on mine. Apart from the lower resolution the games look fucking fine.

and there are MANY excellent Wii games if you know where to look and don't pay attention to shitty "best Wii games" lists put out by IGN and the likes

What does "piece of shit" mean? I am talking about any 1080p TV. If you are used to playing hi definition games on a 40/50inch 1080p LCD/plasma and you hook up a Wii (especially if you were used to playing on a smaller screen), it does look like shit. Don't be such a fanboy. I love the Wii but you cannot deny the pixels. Games can still look great, but the pixels are very noticeable and can even be distracting at some times. Not so much in Mario but in some of these DK videos yes.

I don't get what "know what I am doing" means apart from hooking up Wii cables to an HDTV and being disappointed.

And I LOVE the wii, some of my all-time favourite games are on it, but overall it just does not have the same amount of 9/10 (i.e., great) games as other consoles. Go on any meta analyses website and you will see Wii has like 10 over 90, PS3/360 have over 20.

OH BUT RATINGS ARE BULLSHIT ETC... say that if you want, but these are collapsed across hundreds of websites and these people are not all making this shit up.

I love the Wii, it just doesn't stand up that well against the other two big boys if someone wants to play many great games on a high definition television. I ran out of games a few too many times on the Wii, thus had to sell.

did you look into downloadable software at all?

also I was talking about certain tweaks to picture settings depending on the set, be it straight LCD, DLP (two of the worst for Wii), Plasma, OLED (the far superior options) etc. Then there's always making sure you get component cables rather than using the composite that come in the box

and what the fucking lol is up with this thread title now?! :lol

I'm not a Wii fanboy(anymore), I practically play my PS3 exclusively these days.
But the Wii games I have simply don't look that shitty on my 40 inch LCD. Yes, the resolution is far inferior but never to the point where I though "oh, fuck this shit", especially not after the upgrade from the old TV I had.
Of course it doesn't hold a candle to the PS3 but you'd have to be a motherfucking retard to demand that from the Wii.

    Also, BRING BACK CUONTRY!

Well I had a 62 inch TV so unless I stood like 25 feet away it was very distracting.

Type of TV has nothing to do with how many pixels are on the screen. There are things you can do to adjust the visuals to some extent, but nothing that makes it look much better.

I love the Wii, I'm just saying its far harder for games on that console to look great. Not sure how galaxy looks so great, but it does. Maybe some of these DK videos just aren't shot well, who knows.

yeah, Jazz, I think all we're saying is that going from that sharp youtube vid to your HD tv screen is really not going to be as bad as you might think, especially in motion. then make some picture setting tweaks and the situation gets better.

oh yeah, it's also going to be amazingly fun to play, which should help you focus a bit less on the gfx

That's your problem right there. Who the fuck needs such a monstrosity of a TV?
I already think we got somewhat overboard with the 40 inch we bought but it was just a good deal and the old TV was at the end of its life.
