Like in real life with propositions and certain laws, enough people have signed to make a significant difference. I could see how this could get out of hand, but I genuinely think there are quite a few people on this forum that literally everyone dislikes, and are cancers to threads and forums. Not like trolling, but just really, really shitty posting and general "not getting it". It's one thing if you're a shitty poster and post one or twice a day, but it's another if you're a shitty poster and have ascertained thousands of posts in mere weeks and they're basically all in GD.

I was gonna post a poll, but my "connection was reset" three times, so I said fuck it. But a mod should add a poll.

No, there are enough people here that would keep me, most people that dislike me don't know me or only see a few posts in GD, which is not my main posting place. And if I did, so be it, that'd be perfectly fair.

But there are people, like Cashmere, SC_F and others that would most likely get overwhelming results and their subsequent banning would make forum browsing and threads a lot more pleasant and funny.

Just put them on your ignore list, if they bother you that much. I haven't been here that long, though, so I don't know how horrible you people can truly be yet.

Really, that is perfectly fine if you think that I would be banned from this system, but I think it's a fair and just system and something like it should be put into place for a few days for a quick clean up.

Some rules like...:you must have been a member for a year to vote, thus no alt accounts, and to be banned you must receive a 85 or 90% ban vote, etc to keep it from getting out of hand. If people here are even remotely appreciated, or are completely insignificant they wouldn't be voted out.

I think it would. If a banned person made an alt, and said alt was noticeably trolling or spamming, a quick IP check could constitute a ban, or if the alt was quiet and timid....either way the spamming, trolling and failing problem is solved.

If you're so bad that 90% of the people will want you gone, you would've been banned long ago.

Mhmm, yes so you've said. So we should actually consider this, I think it's fair. If 90% of the members hate you, why would you want to post anyways? If that were the case I would leave with no problems, because that's fair.

This ban petition would only serve to get rid of selfconsuming_fire and possibly CashmereFSB (although he's not been too bad lately).

Not that I'd be against that.

There are a lot of new people that are just trolling and spamming though. Like that new chick that's derailed like two threads now just on pure fail, and other nameless people. I think that if you were to present a petition thread with the person and a reasonable case (for people that are oblivious to the new person) then a lot of spam could be cleaned up. The subtlety of it is what keeps it efficient; if it was like 60% then a lot of people would be banned.

Most people that have been here for a year have actual friends here and care about the forum enough to not ban random people, at least more than 10%. Perhaps we can create an appealing system for the mods for the people that feel they were unjustly banned.

Dumbest idea ever. What is this, a tree house club? You can't just vote people off. Besides, you're a worse poster than 99% of the members here. Even so, I like having you around since it's so easy to push your buttons.

Look, I only get about three or four hours a week to frequent these forums and I am SICK of that time being wasted with a bunch of little pseudo trolls attempting to flame and being idiots, ruining otherwise good threads and not getting banned for it. There is a line, and these fucking noobs are beginning to cross it, when they have 30 posts in a thread and the second highest poster has 12 because they're just spamming and being fucking annoying.

This banning system is a great addition to the one already in place. Stop being pussies, no one that doesn't suck will get banned.

Yes, this changes that, but only a little. The odds of this being used in anything but the most drastic of situations are very low. It's not as though this is going to be popped out for every user for no reason.

I think that a few new members and SC_F could go up for it, maybe Cashmere...people that keep on destroying perfectly good threads by just being idiotic. Like this thread: http://www.fiveeightforums.com/most-influential-poster-t91689/index.html

That Ant girl as well, and some other noobs. They aren't "breaking rules", so they get away with it.

Regardless if you agree or not, I don't see the harm of this idea.

Uh, because a spontaneous popularity contest could get people banned for no good reason? "Be well liked" isn't in the rules for posting here. People would bandwagon and vote people off just for the fun of having some semblance of "power" here.

there's a difference between a classic poster such as myself "trolling" (which is rarely ever the case, and if it most people are in on the joke), and a bunch of randoms shitting all over threads.

I created rules against that. 90%...do you think that anyone that gets a 90% ban vote doesn't deserve it? If 90% of a forum hates someone so much that they should be banned, it's for a reason.

Ya, you're probably right. Your last sentence pretty much describes 90% of the mods and how they decide to take action or inaction. I could imagine it being much worse with a bandwagon mentality.

People who literally just "shit all over threads" are already taken care of by infractions and subsequent bans. Cashmere and SCF are annoying losers, sure ... but have they really done enough to warrant not being allowed to post here?

Because that's almost more annoying then a trolled thread.

The thread is still derailed, I just can't fucking see it. That doesn't solve anything.

Take it from someone who knows...you can really...stretch infractions for a long, long period of time before getting banned, especially incurring a ban duration that actually noticeably changes your presence.

I don't have a problem with each of those posters, personally, but it seems to be a general consensus by most members that they're useless.

It seems like you guys are blending "a lot of people hate these posters" and "these posters should be prohibited from enjoying this place". I dislike their opinions, but I can't think of a single person in this community's history who I thought should be banned forever.

You say that if you were banned under this system, you'd be fine with it ... but there's no way that's true. How could you be so concerned with this place that you want to purge people you hate, but also not care if you got shoved out yourself? Would you sit around like "well, I may have been kicked out of 5/8, but at least it was in a fair manner that I came up with myself!"
