holy shit yes. What great news. I love how it seems to play like previous diablos, which in my opinion is the only way I could imagine playing the game. The graphics are really nice too and so is the sound effects.
Man, I really wanna play LoD again. Sadly I can't find my disks . I moved last summer and they are still packed away somewhere.
Basic Story - It has been twenty years since the events of Diablo II. Of those who faced the Lords of Hatred, Terror, and Destruction in the battle over the fate of Sanctuary, there are few still living who can bear to remember the horrors that the Prime Evils wrought upon the world. And of those who did not witness the terrible events firsthand, most believe the stories to be little more than myth. But something evil is stirring once again in Tristram, and it may already have claimed its first victim: Deckard Cain.
It seems to me like the witch doctor might replace the necro. His moves seem to be similar to the necros.
I agree, those themes are timeless, but they've got a different approach this time, more in vein with the epic music throughout Act 5 in Lord of Destruction. You can hear some of the new music here: http://www.blizzard.com/diablo3/world/worldmap.xml I fucking love it. Oh, and I should have fucking known. How pissed off would you be if you were Blizzard, and already people are going "it shouldn't look like that it should look like this". Edit: Fuck that cinematic trailer is still making me shit bricks.
I hate top say it, but it's true though. It shouldn't look like a goddamn cartoon. Blizzard is an amazing company and they always put out amazing releases, but they could try to diversify their style. They've been stuck in WoW design mode for too long. Diablo was always an employer of a very dark and grimy atmosphere, to change that is to change the mood of the whole series. Regardless, I'm buying this game. An absolute necessity. I am in love with the Diablo games, and by then I should have a laptop that will run it better than this piece of crap computer that can't even run D2 without lag.
The demo is a very early wip. There is no reason to believe the final game will look ANYTHING like it.
Actually one of the producers said in an interview that they wanted more color and less "gothic" than the previous two. It will most likely stay that way unless there is enough outcry on the interwebs to see how much of a mistake Blizzard is making.
actually, it's not WoW-design mode... it's more like Warcraft (3) design mode (since that game is really cartoon-ish) and yes, i know warcraft has always been in that style, but not Diablo.
Think I'm gonna turn the internet off for the next couple years so I don't have to hear about all the bitching people are gonna do about D3
except you're basing this off of an early, early early demo. and fuck, the atmosphere seemed pretty rockin' to me from that demo
They can tweak it but that doesn't mean they will. I posted earlier saying that Blizzard confirmed it is their intention to bring more color and stray away from the "gothic" tone. And the atmosphere is pretty "rockin", it just doesn't fit the Diablo universe.
This, they said they wanted to keep a gothic look but add more color, i remember the producer saying that they wanted the darkness to be expressed more as an emotion, rather than relying on color to achieve this.
Holy shit, how come I only knew about this last night? I've been a fan of the the Diablo series since I was born practically.
Damn, I lent my D2 CDs to my drummer thinking that I'd be able to run the game without the CDs (it says in the patch log that if you did a full install, you can run it without the CD). Not the case, seemingly. Aw hell yeah fixed it here I come. Shit I can't find you. What's your character name and/or what game are you in? Are you even playing anymore?
Personally I am glad. Far too many companies rely on "Brown and bloom" to create "atmosphere" nowadays. One can have terrific atmosphere and decent vibrant colours. In any case, as those pictures from page 9 clearly show its easy to change the look using a couple of lighting filters and some noise. Unlike the original games this will hae advantage of dynamic lighting and such like. Objects dont start grey and brown. They start colourful but look grimy due to the lighting.
According to the documentation, you upgrade to 1.12 and then copy some of the files from your CD onto your hard drive as well, the ones which in the past were why the CD had to be in the drive. Once you've done that, you don't need the CDs. All the patch really did was update some code to tell it to look on your harddrive instead of the CD for those files. I haven't done it yet, though, because I play SP with a noCD hack, but I talked to others who have done it and it works fine.
Yeah I figured it out - I just missed the d2xvideo.mpq. So I copied another mpq and renamed it, and it worked.
I still cant find my disks I tore my house apart trying to find them, but no luck. I might have to torrent it just to play it again.
wtf, I entered my CD key in at the blizzard site, downloaded Diablo 2, but now the installer says my CD Key is bad. It asks for a 26-digit CD key when all I have is a 16-digit key?? [edit] nevermind, they give you the 26-digit key on the site.
This is incredible news. I have been waiting so long for this. I predict this game will break sales records. I hope I don't need a new computer. If I can run Crysis in high settings, I should be fine, I think. My brother is gonna be out of luck, though. He can only barely run Oblivion in fairly medium settings, and Titan Quest doesn't work on his computer.
Folks, please read a bit about the game, at least the official FAQ. Blizzard, as always, will deliver an optimized engine and they (as always) want as many people as possible to play their games. You won't even need a DX10 card to play the game so don't worry about that.
