Tracklist of Ocean Machine, just for the visual people: Seventh Wave Life Night Hide Nowhere Sister 3 A.M Voices in the Fan Greetings Regulator Funeral Bastard The Death of Music Thing Beyond Things Funeral --> Bastard ---> The Death of Music?!?! SHIT!!!
Ocean Machine is awesome, but I don't get the love for Life. I mean, it is a good song, but the majority of the songs on OM are better, as are dozens of others Devin has done.
Another thing I love about it is that the emotional content is there EVERY FUCKING TIME. A lot of the time when songs make me feel a certain way they lose that quality over time, but when I put on a track from OM it always brings me to that same feeling I had in the beginning.
and i can't believe that i'm here to stay cause i never worked it out this...and i love you more than i can saybut i hate you every other...and i'll keep my world from falling apartin the corner of an aching heartso say you'll come back to the citycome back with me pleeeeeease
I only just "discovered" that song about a year ago, despite having owned the album since about 2004 or 2005. Funny how some songs just jump out at you all of a sudden like that.
I owned OM for four or five years before it grabbed me. I don't know why it didn't do anything for me at first.
Why does it seem like the lyrics to Sister are nowhere to be found on the internet? There's like a billion sites that say they have the lyrics... and then it has [Words and music by Devin Townsend]. Those are not the lyrics. Also, Voices in the Fan has the Sad But True riff
Because all those sites are copy/pasted from the lyric book, which doesn't include the lyrics for that particular song.
Okay, I'll ask this here, too... Question: Where do you guys put Tiny Tears when compared to the rest of the songs on Terria? And the rest of his songs in general? Personally, I think it is the best song on Terria (which is saying A LOT) and is in the conversation of best Devin song ever. The chanting section is just hypnotically godly.
Tiny Tears is beyond fucking awesome. Certainly one of his very best songs, and that is really saying something.
It's one of my favorite songs too. There are some aspects of other songs on Terria that I like enough that it's hard for me to pick a favorite, so I know that I wouldn't put Tiny Tears above them.
It's still one of my favorites. There are like three different moments in "Deadhead" that make my heart explode with joy.
I fucking love Deadhead (and it's beyond amazing live) but for some reason AE as an album has never quite clicked with me. I keep trying but failing to get into it, and can't quite put my finger on why.
Ditto, I love few of the songs on AE, but the rest haven't clicked with me for some reason. And what baffles me the most is that I started loving Deadhead only after hearing it live. Now I fucking love the album version of it too.
I think of it as his "blues"album. That is, the music is a little more basic, but it's all about him pouring himself into the vocals. I still think it's his best vocal performance by far.
AE has always thrown me off as being a bit of an oddball album since it sounds more streamlined from a production standpoint; plus, it doesn't feature that classic wall of sound that is so prevalent in most of his music (Ghost being another huge exception, but for obvious reasons in that case). It also sounds more of a collection of songs just thrown together in no particular order, rather than an album with a specific flow. But Suicide, Random Analysis, Deadhead and Sunday Afternoon are all killer tunes, and the rest are good as well (except for the somewhat weak Traveler).
Watched an interview with Burton from Fear Factory yesterday, and apparently Devin is going to co-headline a tour with them in November/December. Since I love both, that's pretty fucking sweet for me!
So, I've decided that Ghost is in fact the perfect summer album. I cannot adequately express my love for this album; it might be my absolute favorite of his (of the ones I've heard).
AE and Synchestra have always felt like Spring/Summer albums to me for some reason. Thus I listened to AE today and I have to say the first 5 tracks are awesome, but the album kinda loses steam after that. Ditto on the vocals, Storm and Deadhead put it over the top.
Buchkoba00, wogbog and overtone I liked all of your previous posts as I agree and like you guys a lot too :3 AE is my second favorite devy album, right behind Synchestra ololol :3 :3
