This is really nice. Love love love the production. Everything sounds so clear and warm. I'm not sure what to think of it overall yet... which is a good thing, because it's the exact way I felt about Terria (which is now my all-time favourite album).

The big stand outs for me were: - Gato - Heaven Send - Trainfire - Lady Helen The rest of them were excellent, also, though. Those four just really really REALLY stood out for me. This record is easily one of his best and is very accessible compared to some of his other works. The flow is fucking seemless and the production is the best he's had, IMO.
I actually liked the acoustic/mellow parts far more than the heavier ones (actually, I didn't find distruptr and gato that good)
I hope the lyrics get released for this pretty soon. I can understand a lot of them but theres a few that are hard to tell what he's saying.
Fuck, my first listen was extremely underwhelming. Terminal, Winter, and the first half of Trainfire were the only songs that stood out at all.
In a little bit I think I'm going to chill out with this and g-force visualizer while in a slightly altered state
I just listened to it with the lights off and laying in my bed. Coast is really really cool. I was then underwhelmed by pretty much everything until some parts of "Winter" and "Trainfire" which was nice too. "Lady Helen" is very touching. The end of "Ki" literaly blew me away. I sat in my bed smiling like an idiot and almost laughing because of the unexpected awesomeness of the song. I think it's one of the coolest thing I've ever heard. "Quiet Riot" seemed in its right place and should have been tho closer IMO. Don't know yet what to make of the album yet and I agree with the general sentiment express by Devronius earlier.
Shit...I like it. But I do think it'll grow on me. I have no idea how to accurately review it right now.
The thing with Devin is that his musical spectrum is pretty wide. You can take his stuff on SYL and compare it to his ambient albums (The Hummer particularly) and I bet a random listener would never have guessed the same person was behind them. You've got the crowd that loves Devins really, really heavy stuff, the crowd that is really inspired by his mellower endeavors, the crowd that likes his odd/crazy stuff, and another crowd that loves a mix of some or all of it. This album is not for the fans of his heavy, heavy stuff and only that. Its more of an amalgamation of his mellower stuff with his ambience, some crazyness to mix things up and a FEW hints of the heavy. He had previously said this album was all about restraint, and most Devin fans are probably not used to that when listening to his music. This album and the subsequent three albums to be released are all coming out under "The Devin Townsend Project." This is something completely new, and you can tell the difference. It was a short time between the reveal of the content of the albums and the leak of the first one, so I dont think a lot of fans had time to get their expectations in check. I had no idea what was going to come out of this album, but as a fan of his entire spectrum, I thoroughly enjoy what he has created with Ki.
hard to say what i feel really. Listened to it last night in an "altered state" Was pretty amazing, yet a bit boring maybe? Some really good stuff going on now and then, like coast, holy shit, coast.
I think this is the best album Devin has ever produced. I'm still undecided on some songs, others I love (Coast, Terminal, Winter, Lady Helen, Ki, Quiet Riot) and all in all, it's a pretty nice album. Oh, and Coast gotta be one of his best songs.
First few songs sound quite boring...when are the two agressive albums of this project supposed to come out?
Actually to be fair I posted that before actually listening to the first few songs. I'm not all that impressed with Disruptr on first listen, but Coast is amazing.
what's with the song "Quiet Riot"? I get that the "I don't know why" bit is from Cum On Feel The Noize, but are there other parts of songs/references in there? and who are John and Michelle?
