This looks fucking great. Apparently the novel is a modern-day adaptation of Ulysses. Competing in Cannes next month so I'm guessing late year release.
I'm a DeLillo fanboy and I hear even the diehards aren't really into the book (I love the premise but I haven't cracked it open yet). I've never seen a Cronenberg movie not worth watching so I guess I am excited?
also from what I understand the only thing about the book that warrants all of its Ulysses comparisons is the fact that it takes place in one day.
Never read DeLillo at all but Cronenberg is why I am so excited. I am also interested in seeing what a good director can get Robert Pattinson to do.
Cosmopolis I am disappoint. I think I understand why it was the way it was, but I really didn't dig most of it other than one particular character interaction. Almost felt more Lynch than Cronenberg. Good score, though!
Yeah, I can see that. I just saw it. I enjoyed it. The last half hour was spellbinding. The rest of it was good. It felt way too clean and cold to open up, but it gets darker and dirtier the later it gets, but it seems to fit the evolution of the character throughout his day. The dialogue was very bizarre, but after reading a bit of DeLillo I think it's probably an incredibly faithful adaptation of its source material. I think Pattinson and Giamatti were absolutely fantastic.
Cronenberg always feels clean and cold to me and it often takes me multiple viewings to really connect to some of his stuff. Naked Lunch and Crash, for example. This looks like it would be in that vein of his output.
That was the interaction I liked! I also felt like the pacing and feel of the movie were meant to represent something, both about the character and the story.
