Since the game doesn't really have a active thread I figured the just announced expansion could start one off.

Anwyays, to sum it up. Religion, espionage, expanded diplomacy, reworked combat (AI and units), and a shit ton of new stuff (civs, units, wonders, new city-states)

    http://www.destructoid.com/civilization-v-expansion-gods-kings-announced-221950.phtml
I wasn't one of the people who was overly concerned with the lack of religion and espionage in V. But I am still looking forward to this because if there is one thing that V has shown be about the current team is they are good at refining shit. Here is to hoping that espionage and religion aren't annoying as fuck like they were in IV where they quickly devolved into busy work.

It also looks like you can actually custom create your religion to some degree to match a play style, which is cool. And the options for espionage in the screenshot (below) look far more useful than in the past.

    EDIT:

Complete break down of all the additions (THANKS FRISKYACIDMOMMARINGO)

I didn't really miss it.... but thats only because I wasn't in love with how it was implemented.

This reminds me... when I have my new computer I may have to try this game again. Hopefully no more late-game crash.

I want to get back into this. I stopped after having crashes. Also I'm shitty at this game.

Just realized I never tried replaying this game after getting my new computer. The old crashing problem I had was likely related to RAM in some way, and now that I have 32 GB I can't see that I could possibly have a RAM problem anymore. Also, change of OS should make a difference. I think I will have to give it a try.

If you had bad ram... its just as likely your new ram would be bad too lol.

Unless you think hitting the limit on ram is the issue... which i find unlikely since the game rarely goes over 1.5 gb for me.

Really hope this expansion fixes the fundamental problems with the vanilla CiV compared to CivIV BTS. (Low production to prevent 'carpets of doom', poor diplo, useless AI, general inbalance eg between tech paths/strategies).

And I hope it doesn't introduce a bunch of extra bullcrap to click through like Civ IV BTS had, duplicate useless systems, and a boring end game.

Ok, I'll bite. It's pretty well agreed on the fansites that V was a step back gameplay-wise from IV. Sure, IV wasn't perfect, but V introduced far more fundamental problems than it solved. http://www.garath.net/Sullla/Civ5/whatwentwrong.html explains it far better than I could, from an ex-developer.

I am well aware of the endless bitching and "i am smarter than the developers" feelings of many Civ fans.

I had 2 GB prior to this computer. I was basically guessing at it being a RAM problem, though. Just seemed the most likely since the crashes would typically happen at parts of the game that would require more RAM.

Doesn't really matter, anyway. Pretty much every part of this computer is new so even not knowing what was causing the crashes before, I have at least a 60% chance of getting it to work on this one.

I've been playing civ v with my friend a lot. I might have to get the expansion just so we can continue playing since he's definitely gonna get it and in no way will play vanilla afterwards.

There was a big (and unexpected by me) update to vanilla Civ V today. It has steam workshop integration now, which is cool.

I like it so far. It really sticks to the design sensibilities of Civ V though so I doubt it will make angry "its not civ 4" people much happier.

Its a little weird getting used to how previous buildings have been changed to generate faith, but it makes sense that stuff like temples do so... its just a little wtf where is my culture?! They did bring in new buildings that make up for it.

    Thats nothing.

Anyways I finished my first game of it, love the fuck out of it. The combat and the city states are so much better.... the game just feels completely fleshed out now.

Yeah, city states actually have purpose now. Before, they were mostly roadblocks. Religion/Faith is so great. I look forward to playing a game where I just brainwash the planet.

I was a Civ V zombie this weekend, put 11 hours in yesterday and around 6 today. Gods and Kings is really fun, straightforward enough for me to remember all the mechanics from Civ 2.
