Full Metal Jacket enjoys too much mainstream popularity for Wilcaz to enjoy it as well.

Best Buy is currently doing a fun promotion: each DVD you trade in (any DVD as long as it's not bootleg, copied, or porn) gives you a $5 credit towards a Blu-Ray. Three catches: the Blu-Ray must be at least $9.99, some stores are limiting you to 5-at-a-time, and you cannot stack the credits (e.g. you cannot put $25 towards a boxset, it's a $5 discount per Blu-Ray).

Still, a great deal, so today I traded in The Hurt Locker, Junebug, Full Metal Jacket, The Prestige, and some other DVD I forget. Bought Minority Report for $12, Léon: The Professional for $5, Dr. Strangelove (40th anniversary edition) for $10, and I still have two certificates. I was gonna use a certificate on V For Vendetta but it turned out to be marked down to $8 from $10, so I just saved a certificate and bought it anyway. $35 for those 4 movies = win in my books.

Fun story: being the obsessive lunatic that I am, I was furious that my Full Metal Jacket Blu-Ray had a square-quarter-inch of plastic that broke on the spine. After some painful Googling, I found out that many (most) of the major studios use Viva-brand Elite cases. I found an eBay store that sells bundles of them, so I bought an order of 10 cases for about 6 bucks and happily replaced the broken FMJ one.

Anyway, I recently bought The Prestige and Léon, both of which use some shitty other brand of case that has a clasp on the right spine. Ah ha!, I remembered an hour ago, I still have 9 Viva Elite cases! Now, every single of my 30-some Blu-Rays have the exact same brand of case, and it's lovely. ONE exception: Lion King combo pack. This is a 2-disc case, and I only bought a bundle of 1-disc cases. Since I keep the slipcover on, I'm not going to freak about it unless I obtain one or more additional 2-disc sets that have shitty clasps.

I'll be glad to pass on the eBay store to anyone as OCD as I am.

My OCD has forced me to not buy the Benjamin Button criterion blu ray because when I put it next to my other criterions it will look really out of place.

I have accepted the sad truth that Criterion Blu Ray cases will never be blue and will never be the same shape as other studios' releases.

No way man, I think Criterion cases are better. I keep them separate and in numerical order on another side of my self anyways.

Ordered the Lord of the Rings Extended trilogy for £40. I can't wait to watch them. I'm on season 2 of Lost in blu ray at the moment and they look stunning.

ATTENTION ANYONE WHO BOUGHT A VERSION OF INCEPTION THAT INCLUDES A DIGITAL COPY

    http://www.wbdigitalcopy.com/inception/

"Digital Copy expiration date for "Inception" has been extended to 12/19/13 to provide more viewing options for Inception fans."

The digital copy codes originally expired last May, but literally just TODAY they decided to stop being faggots. If you put in your existing code, it will give you a new code that will help you download. Just did this and I'm pumped, because I got the Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital Copy pack at Best Buy for EIGHT DOLLARS in December. The combo pack is currently $15 at Best Buy ... and with the trade-in deal I mentioned before, you can get it for $10. I think they are discounting this pack because they think the digital copy is expired and are trying to clear out that stock (avoiding confused customers who can't redeem it).

    TAKE ADVANTAGE!

Dat Best Buy sale ... they're discounting the register price no matter how deep THAT discount already is, as long as it rings up $9.99 or more.

    50/50 - $12.99
    Aliens - $7.99
    Insomnia - $4.99
Kick-Ass (with DVD and Digital Copy) - $4.99

$32 and change after tax ... FUCK

I'm bringing back some DVDs today and scoring Friday Night Lights (for the score), Criterion Diabolique, Eternal Sunshine, maybe Thor. Does anyone have Thor? I heard it was terrible but Rita said the effects were good. I don't know how well they transferred it.

Who cares if the effects are good? If the movie sucks, the effects don't really matter. Download it if you wanna see the pretty pictures. Spend your money on something you know you'll love, or something that may be worth a gamble, like another Criterion.

You're right and they didn't have it anyway so I got Diabolique (25), Eternal Sunshine (10), FNL (5), Fear and Loathing (5), and what I THOUGHT was the original Fast and the Furious, but it was a newer one since they can't properly name their films. I bought that for five and sold it to a coworker ten minutes after purchase.

Then I went out and saw The Artist. Good day.

He got an awesome movie then. I've only seen the first and I was buying it for nostalgia.

I just bought Cul-de-sac as my intro to old Polanski. I've only seen The Pianist and The Ninth Gate. I'm pretty excited for this one, I like films in small/claustrophobic spaces. If I like it I'll go after Repulsion and Knife in the Water next :glee

IMO there are more "essential" Polanski films than those.

Suggestions? Cul-de-sac didn't really hit me all that well.

Sports fans, the 30 for 30 series is only $50 on Amazon right now.

Chinatown, Rosemary's Baby, and The Tenant are the ones that usually come to mind. Don't think any of them are on blu-ray though unfortunately.

The only Roman Polanski film I've seen is Chinatown and I can state unequivocally that it is the best one.

I have been buying up a storm, and rarely if ever paying more than $14 or $15 per title. I actually balk at Blu-Rays priced $20 or over these days. I'm spoiled by big businesses like Best Buy and Amazon now.

    Recently:

    - Harry Potter 3 and 4 (Target exclusive Blu-Ray + DVD + Digital Copy ... $13 each)
    - Insidious
    - Memento
    - The Social Network
    - Taken

Also, I mentioned this earlier on this page, but I've been crazy about replacing cases that either 1) are not uniform with my collection, 2) have excessive stickering/security devices, or 3) are broken. As of today, every single case in my collection is perfect. It's a pretty wonderful feeling. Blu-Ray.com also has a custom cover art thread and I'll probably replace a few titles with atrocious art (Drive, Tinker Tailor Solider Spy).

Short answer: yes. Apparently Australians want stars' faces, as large as possible, all over their Blu-ray and DVD packaging, artistic merit be damned.

But on the positive side, it's illegal to sell DVDs in Australia without a rating on the front, back and spine, so since manufacturers have to come up with Australia-specific artwork anyway, occasionally we'll get lucky and they'll decide to do something cool with the artwork. Occasionally.
