    current libation:

it's quite good. very creamy and subtle. purportedly TJ's own recipe, with things grown right here at Poplar Forest, like on the other side of town!

Yakima Glory is a good beer, but I feel it it's more on the side of a hoppy porter rather than a black IPA, especially as it warms. Sublimely Self-Righteous is much better in terms of fitting the style.

currently drinking a DFH World Wide Stout. Uh, wow. This has a great, rich flavor, but this is not a single trace of the whopping 18% abv. I just wish it didn't cost a dollar per ounce. Very woody taste, but I don't think this one is actually barrel aged.

yeah heard good things about that one.

    the price is off-putting though.

What did you pay? Around $10 per bottle? That's pretty fair for such a huge beer.

Yea $10/bottle isnt obscene, if you just want a bottle. It's not like you'll be slamming them all night.

I paid $17+tax for a 750 mL bottle of beer before Christmas.

I was all :grunge, but it will be worth it when it gets cracked open.

Actually it might have only been $8 or $9 for 12 ounces. I might have to get another.

I don't think world wide stout is all that great. It tastes vinegary to me and is not bitter enough for my preferences.

Is Founders Double Chocolate actually Breakfast Stout? To my knowledge they don't brew a brew called Double Chocolate ...

    Not even the right continent.

YDCS is a great beer, though. Not as good as Founders Breakfast Stout, but very good nonetheless.

yeah it's young's. For $5 it's not going to be as good as the founders. I've actually been looking for that for months, can't find it.

Breakfast Stout is Brewed September through December. It's about $12-14 a four pack here but once in a while I splurge and as soon as I open one I remember why.

A 4 pack of YDCS pint cans here is about $10, and I haven't had it in a long while. I should revisit it. It was my first beer love, really, and it's been way too long.

I had a Lost Abbey Red Farmhouse Ale and a Oskar Blues Old Chub tonight when I was out. Both pretty good.

Expected more flavor from the Lost Abbey, and I'm still trying to get used to Scotch Ales, but it was pretty good.

Holy shit, I just had an Old Chub for the first time tonight, too. I like Founders Dirty Bastard a little better, but the Old Chub is sold like 5 minutes from my house, as opposed to an hour away, so I'm not complaining.

Yeah, I had a Dirty Bastard at the same place once, and I definitely liked it a bit more. I also had a sip of my lady's Great Divide Claymore. I liked that less than DB and OC.

I've only had 3 scotch ales - Founders DB, Old Chub, and Brasserie de Silly's Scotch Silly, which I'd put on par with the Old Chub. Not my favourite style, but it's growing on me a bit.

My girlfriend is actually just as snobby as I am now. We like to go out and rate beers. It's good, because none if my friends drink anything but Bud Light.

I'm introducing her to the best IPA in history tonight :glee

This might be a stretch, but does anyone have anything Arcadia in their fridge right now?

(Nikki at store, me at work)
DJ - make sure its fresh
Nikki - how do I tell?
DJ - there should be a label on the bottle
    Nikki - I don't see it
    DJ - was it dusty?
    Nikki - nope
DJ - it'll be fine then

    Half hour later...
Nikki - found the date. The rest were scratched off...
DJ - that doesn't sound promising. What is it?
    Nikki - 10/06/10

She can't tell if it says Drink by or born on, and I can't remember. Solve this mystery plz.

I had some Budweiser bottles awhile ago that were about a year past the "drink by" date, I had a few....they didn't taste bad, but they had an extra funky taste to them, resembled an Oktoberfest beer, but since it was regular Budweiser that probably wasn't a good sign.

Thanks. I looked at a few of the reviews, but not enough of them apparently.

Ister: I was just gonna have her take it back, so tasting was out. I've had three beers past date: an Eliot Ness with no label, awful; a Founder's Breakfast, didn't drink (see pic in this thread); and a Coors, which was fine.

Just went to my old college haunt and had a few Ed Fitzes on tap for the first time in a while. I happened to ask if he was expecting to put any Founders on tap soon, and he said maybe next month.

    "Which one?"
    "Kentucky Breakfast."

    Fuck yes.
