It was 2oz of it. It tasted great but made the broth too thick.

Edit: 2oz and I have a case of it.

P.S. I typically enjoy Guinness. I don't see it so much as a stout or anything but I enjoy drinking it. It is the lowest grade of beer I drink, and unfortunately the only one typically available to be in bars... and only like 50% of the time.

Anyone else finding places around them having spring seasonal stuff out already?

My local Kroger has spring Blue Moon and Sam Adams stuff out. Weird.

I feel like cooking with better beer makes the food taste better. When I use IPAs vs adjuncts it gives a thicker and fuller taste to the dish.

Yeah, I won't say that I like Guinness, but enjoy is good enough. Usually I have either Guinness, Blue Moon, or Yuengling when I'm out, because no one I know is really into craft beer, so I go to shit bars 24/7.

Also, I was in the beer store today, and the owner asks me if I'm working tomorrow. I thought this was a strange question - so I said "Yeah, why?"

"We're getting some rare beers in tomorrow, you should stop by at about the same time if you don't work then."

GUESS WHO'S GOING TO BUY SOME RARE BEERS BEFORE HE GOES TO WORK TOMORROW?

THIS MOTHERFUCKER (probably some Hopslam at the very least, who knows what other goodies)

EDIT: One thing he did have when I went in today was Traquair 2020. A shame I'm not a huge fan of barleywines, otherwise that would have been a fucking score.

Guinness has dropped from my tap go-to to the beer.I drink if there aren't any new/undiscovered micros on tap. It's still great though, ajd the Foreign Extra really was superior to quite a few alternatives.

Might take a trip to Mount Pleasant tonight to tap some of that Blackberry mix I used to pimp so much :glee

Massive new grog shop just opened up where I live with a motherfucking section labeled craft beer can I get a hell yeah?

EDIT: They also have separate sections for single malts and blended scotch - everywhere else in town just has a liquor section.

It's four degrees outside so this thread is now about Winter Warmers.

It seems like these are only good on tap :(

I had New Belgium 2 Below Ale last night, if that counts.

Otherwise, just came from the pub where I had Goose Island Honker's Ale, Founders Centennial IPA, and Bell's Two Hearted Ale. Mmmmm

Yeah it was definitely interesting as fuck

They use really good hops in the Bell's as well. Pretty similar to Lagunitas

Bell's does use nice hops. kinda feel liked Two Hearted is a little too balanced though. Eh. I look for reasons to hate on Bell's. Their porter is pretty decent though.

had a Hopslam last night and damn it was good, although I would have preferred a more aggressive hop character... still one of the best widely available ridiculously good IIPAs around.

60min for 4 is whatever. The only place I know that has 90min is like $4.50 during happy hour.

This spring Blue Moon is alright, I guess. Easily drinkable for me, although it really lacks a noteworthy flavor, which is something I like in a beer. Oh well. Could be worse.

    Hopslam is so good.

i might actually go drop a Jackson on a sixer for the games tomorrow.

in recent times i've had a sixer of Golden Monkey, Lagunitas Brown Sugga, some german christmas ale that i didn't save the bottle of, a Troegs Java Head, a Victory Yakima Glory and a Guinness Foreign Stout.

out of those i think the Brown Sugga was my favorite, followed by the Yakima Glory.

Two local bars just posted on facebook that they're tapping hopslam, so hopefully it's available in bottles now too here. I'd like to pick up a sixer because as expensive as it is, it will still be cheaper than bar prices.

the liquor store i frequent has (had?) a huge display set out with like 100 6-packs of hopslam (i think for $18? maybe it was more, because that seems really cheap). i wonder if it's still there. as mentioned earlier, louisville (and maybe a lot of the civilized world that drinks good beer) just goes crazy when hopslam comes out. which is kinda interesting to me, because it's definitely not the best dipa to me.

It's 16.99 a six pack here and the liquor store by my house sold out almost instantly, but I'm glad I got to nab one.

Came across some Hopslam last night, had to plunk $8.50 down for a pint just because of you guys. No one has mentioned it but this beer SMELLS incredible. Best smelling beer I've come across. Mouthful was intense, but in a good, controlled way, not like a bitter attack. Could definitely feel it go down my throat, chest, and stomach. Given the hype here, I thought it would have a few more dimensions but I was impressed with it. I think it stands at #3 on my ipa list.

My favorite smelling beer is Founder's Breakfast Stout.

Yesterday I picked up 3 each of some Trader Joe's beers. I got Stockyard Oatmeal Stout and something dark ale. Stockyard is amazing, and it's a $5.99 a six pack.

I need to try some more oatmeal stout. My first and only was New Holland's. It also happened to be my first NH beer so there was a double variable when I drank/reviewed it. As it came to be, the flavors that I thought were unique to an oatmeal were actually a NH signature in their brewing not so much indicative of oatmeal. They aren't very well represented up here though so its tough finding one to get excited about.

I don't know if you can find the Trader Joe's one, but it has a great nose and these wonderful toasted oat aromas.

Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout is also good. I don't think New Holland's is bad, but it's not my favorite of their beers.

Bought a six of Sam Adams Latitude 48 IPA last night. Not a big fan of their beers, but hadn't seen this before so i gave it a go.

Not at all impressed really. Think the Boston Lager with a few IPA flavor traits thrown in. The beer scores well on BA, but i'm not sure why. Regardless, it is drinkable and i will finish the sixer, but will not be a repeat purchase. I really want to be impressed with a Sam Adams brew, but even their seemingly premium 4-pack big beers leave something to be desired compared to the legions of smaller breweries around the country.

Now for an update on my homebrew:

IPA...two weeks in. Fermenting nicely, gravity reading at 1.017. Took a taste...tastes like beer, although not carbonated and not fully ripe. Also hasn't made me sick which is a good sign. Will transfer to another carboy, steep more hops for two weeks, then to bottling where it will carbonate/condition for another two weeks.

I like Latitude 48 because it's unique. Just as you said, it combines the Boston lager caramelly flavors with pronounced hops. But I see that as a good thing.

I picked up a few interesting things today. A four-pack of Guinness Foreign Extra Stout, a bomber of Smuttynose IPA, and a 750ml of Lindemans Gueuze Cuvée René. The Guinness was because I just tried the Extra Stout and really enjoyed it a week or two ago, and then everyone talking about Guinness here had me craving it kicked up another notch. The Smuttynose was an impulse buy because I saw that it was only 3 bucks for a bomber. That's actually cheaper by volume than their six packs go for here. I hadn't had it since last year at least, and while it's not my favorite (mostly because of the floating critters), I do enjoy it. The Lindemans is one I haven't seen available before. Stores I've been to only ever have the standard fruit lineup of their lambics, which I've always shied away from because I tend not to like fruity and overly sweet beers, and the high cost and low alcohol content didn't help matters either. But I've never tried a gueuze before, and Lindemans is supposed to be a good one. I'm not very experienced with sours at all, so no idea if I'll like it. Expensive too, at 13 bucks, but I'll probably never get it again.

Double Bastard is good, I just think it was a little much for me. I can only handle so much manliness at once in a beer.
