The Midas Touch is completely wonderful. And you should try get your hands on Allagash White, brewed by Allagash Brewing Company, or the St. Bernardus Witbier. Two of the best in that style I've ever had. Another very solid one is the Double White Ale, brewed by Southhampton Publick House.

Agreed. My buddy offered me some the other day and I was barely able to choke down the bottle. Typically I dig their brews but this one was bad news.

You definitely have to eat something with that one. It's pretty harsh otherwise. I've never had it with desert, but one has to wonder if it'd go well there.

I've had Allagash and St. Bernardus beers before, but not their white ales. They were good. Thanks for the heads up.

I have had the Midas Touch as well. I do not know if I'd describe it as 'completely wonderful', but it definitely is one of the most unique beers I've had.

Another 'out there' beer I've been lucky to get a couple of bottles of this past year is DeuS Brut des Flandres. This one is VERY interesting, as it is brewed in Belgium, but then shipped to France and bottle conditioned like a champagne. I shared a bottle with friends at midnight for New Years this year, and I would highly recommend it as a 'beer alternative' to champagne for anyone interested. Made by the same brewery as Kwak, apparently: http://www.bestbelgianspecialbeers.be/main_eng.html

edit: And cherry wheat is not that bad. The recipe has actually improved in the last 5 years quite a bit.

I just loved how balanced everything was with the Midas Touch, and the higher ABV was very well-masked. Extremely complex, and though I wouldn't ever be able to session it, it's still one of the most unique beers I've ever experienced. It really left an good impression on me.

I'll have to be on the lookout for the DeuS, that sounds killer. Kwak is solid.

You guys suck, the Cherry Wheat was really good.

If you're looking something along your preferences, I heard the Valvoline Stout was pretty good.

Holy SHIT I just had one of the best porters of my life. Brewed by Tyranena Brewing in Lake Mills, Wis. (just so happens to be a mere 8 miles from my wife's hometown). All of their brews have been simply fantastic, but this one takes the cake (I also recommend their Rocky's Revenge Stout and Hop Whore IIPA).

But this one. It's called The Devil Made Me Do It! Coffee Imperial Oatmeal Porter, and is it ever a dandy. It's got a nice little maybe one finger head that settles to a minimal head throughout. Not much lacing at all to be found on the glass. Leaves a nice coating on my mouth with HUGE, what feels like dark roast, coffee notes throughout. I almost get like a sweet ice cream that comes in the middle, and then it finishes with a big coffee flavor again. It's smooth and bold and so fucking wonderful. I can't recommend this one enough, one of the best beers I've had, and if you love your Porters, this one is sure to not disappoint.

It's a part of their Brewers Gone Wild! campaign, so I don't know how long it's gonna be in circulation, so try it out while you can, if you're interested. It may be only available in the upper midwest, I'm not sure what their distribution is like.

I bought some Long Hammer IPA, that has been mentioned in this thread. I've also tried a Leinenkugel's Oktoberfest, which was alright.

Yea, I hate when I get served lemon or orange with Blue Moon, hefewiezens, etc. I tried it once with the fruit and it was fucking stupid.

Also, found a place that does $10 pitchers of Moose Drool during happy hour (4-7pm) on Mondays. Ace.

Just bought a few I haven't tried yet.

Bell's Expedition Stout (Russian Imperial Stout)
Southern Tier Brewing Imperial Cherry Saison
Avery Brewing Company "The Czar" (Russian Imperial Stout)

...and some Surly Furious. But I've had this and I adore it.

I can't wait to try the other three, they look super! Anyone had any of them who can shed some light on 'em? I kind of know what to expect from the Bell's, since all of their brews have been top-notch thus far.

Bell's is a really fucking solid brewery. I've not had a beer from there that I would rate as less than a B.

    Tonights drinking will include:

    - Trappistes Rochefort 10 (11.3%)
    - Durham Brewery Temptation (10%)
    - Some Thornbridge brewery ale from the pub
    - Maybe some Newcastle Brown/Murphy's Stout when I'm drunk enough to not care for taste :p

I had one of those some months back. I was actually rather disappointed. It should be said that I have lost it a bit for ales recently. Simply not as fond of them as I used to be.

Aren't you pushing it a bit here. Even though Newcastle Brown is pretty far from being as marvellous as some people seem to think, I would say it's definitely an okay beer.

I think I have had a Murphy's a while back but I don't seem to remember the taste of it.

    OSH is aight.

just bought a six pack of Magic Hat's Autumnal Strong Ale, and it's pretty great.

and i also got a six pack from a local brewery Star Hill. their Dark Star Stout is superb.

Compared to the other stuff I was drinking, it tasted like water :p Luckily, by that point it was about 1am, and I was already pleasantly pissed :p :) I usually only drink Newky Brown when I go out to the goth/metal club in my city, as despite being expensive there, it's in a bottle and doesn't taste watered-down like all the lagers on tap do :p

Pretty bog-standard. I used to buy it quite regularly a few years ago, but then realised it's actually pretty boring.

Newcastle reminds me of water... It's one of the weaker brown ales on the market--especially for how expensive it usually is.

I had a Sam Adams Honey Porter last night. Ugh. Tasted just like a stout. Couldn't finish it. I hope the Black Lager and Irish Red that also came in the variety pack are better.

you say Stout like that's a bad thing. o_0

the Honey Porter is excellent when paired with a good cigar.

i don't care for it by it's self though.

the Irish Red is good, the Black Lager is better.

i wish i could buy sixers of it around here.

I had a couple of beers from the Lancaster brewery over the break. A milk stout, winter ale, English brown ale, and a wheat beer. All were pretty tasty.

you could do much worse than the Harviestoun Bitter & Twisted, or Innis & Gunn Oak Aged for Scottish beers. Highly recommended by me.
