They had a different lyricist back in the doom days, but if you're comparing their lyrics on the past two albums with the lyrics on the four before that, it's still a case of: Anathema's lyrics a few albums back: Anathema's lryics now:
this album is pretty fucking great, not as good as WAHBWAH after a few listens but it's definitely among their best.
Only 1-2 listens but the only song that stuck was Storm Before The Calm, and I even enjoy the beginning. The rest o the album is pretty forgettable on first go. Will give few weeks/months to sink in until forming final Judgement.
Beginning and the End is my favourite atm, gonna be one of my top tracks of the year. And yeah, end of Storm Before the Calm is amazing.
man, Untouchable Part 2 is on a Celine Dion level of cheesy, but it fuckin made me teary-eyed. how do they do it
the first 4 songs are like an incredible suite. i get slightly bored in the middle, but i love 'internal landscapes'.
Untouchable 1 and 2 are awesome. I like the rest but it isn't hitting me as much. I think some time will change that.
I listened to it on a long journey home a couple of days ago and after the first 3 or 4 tracks I didn't really feel anything.
oh, yeah, that is the great thing about Anathema. They went from being awesome, to awesome in a different way, to being completely terrible and written off by a lot of people, to (with the last two albums) finally being awesome again.
This. I listened to it all the way through in the car this morning and it hit me hard. I love how a lot of the songs have this build up into a crescendo thing going on. The male/female vocals work so well together too.
Mars Volta, If These Trees Could Talk and Ancestors are the only ones i like more this album. Definitely a great contender
The fucking climax in 'The Lost Child' is simply crushing, in the saddest yet most uplifting way. Fuck.
This September, Anathema will have a show in my town. Well, not officially confirmed yet but IT HAS TO BE TRUE! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plovdiv_Roman_amphitheatre This is going to be amazing.
Arrived a couple of days ago. Pretty great. More of a grower than WHBWH I think, which on my second listen I was already in love with. This one basically feels like a continuation of that album, but then the second half starts bringing in some different vibes and that's when I really get into it. EDIT: Since I've been berated for this before, my "Pretty great" is a positive review.
The 5.1 mix is pretty good. I had some fears for this since it wasn't mixed by SW like WHBWH but it was done very well regardless of that. Too bad it isn't a full fledged DVD-A anymore and it's only Dolby Digital
I love the sample. Although I liked the track with the sample on WHBWH, the quality of the recording is really shitty and it gets a bit annoying, but this guy's voice is so manly and smooth and pleasing to listen to. Also, does anyone else get reminded of Heavy Rain by the strings at the beginning of The Gathering of the Clouds? I don't think it's just the storm sample that makes me think of it.
Seen them in concert last night, they played the new album almost in its entirety. Untouchable pt1 and pt2 as show opener is fuckin amazing and The Lost Child live gave me the biggest shiver & boner combo ever. Fun fact about that song from Vince: apparently Dan had a nightmare one night, where a foggy image of a child was singing this lullaby melody thingie to him, to which he woke up, ran over to Vince and they wrote down the ideas immediately, went back to sleep and came up with The Lost Child the next morning. Pretty awesome, I want nightmares like that.
Awesome album! The Gathering of Clouds, The Storm Before the Calm, and The Beginning and the End are early standouts. The climax of The Lost Child just kicked my ass.
Learned The Beginning and The End on the piano. Fucking gorgeous bits, and the buildup is incredible.
Finally picked this up yesterday. Truly crushing album... Way too many good albums this year. Epicloud hasn't even been released yet. If there is ever a year for the world to end, this is it.
