Just finished DwD, Daenarys is rapidly becoming the character that most annoys me. Obsessed by the dragons despite them obviously being a weapon of fear and blindly ignoring that her family ruled through that fear of their ferocity which is nowhere near her own morals. Jon Snow deserved the attack but I'm expecting a return next book, him appearing in Melisandre's visions instead of Stannis will become a big thing later.

It's fairly obvious I think from what was written in ADWD that Jon Snow isn't going to stay dead, and will be resurrected (the whole Azor Ahai thing I think now is for certain, considering how much evidence there is for it) so whilst I was shocked upon reading it, once I realised where all the evidence pointed, it sort of lessened the impact I think. Although now he won't have to be leader of the Watch anymore and can actually play a part in the events of the real world without being bound by 'duty' like his shortsighted fellow men of the Watch. And regarding the whole warging thing, yeah in the immediate future I think he might be resurrected into Ghost (otherwise the prologue would have been completely useless) but I don't think it will last long. Melisandre will bring him back for sure.

Danaerys was indeed an annoying little bitch. I wanted to hatefuck her in probably every POV she was in.

Tyrion's chapters were also disappointing I felt. What started off so good (when he was with Aegon), went terribly badly as soon as he was kidnapped. And I really hope the whole 'where do whores go' thing turns out to be significant, because it was annoying reading it over and over
and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over
    again.

Intrigued as to where Arya is going.

And I doubt Jaime will die. His story is going to come full circle and he's gonna turn out to be a real champ (where at the beginning he was a real cunt).

Yep - you guys can go back to spoiler free, sorry about that.

Reflecting on the wedding now, another ten or so chapters past. All I can say is that that episode of the show is gonna be fucking badass.

Have not read any of the thread, but...

I really want to read these books. Badly. I haven't the money to purchase them. Would I be a terrible person for pirating them if I am certain I will purchase them later?

Right, so I guess there's no difference between that and me pirating the book, reading it, and deleting it when I'm done.

    Thanks.

No, go for it, though unless you have an ebook reader of some sort, sifting through the common pdfs of the books can be pretty annoying compared to reading the books in-hand.

    Sounds awful to me, haha.

If it works for you, why not go for it.

GRRM's rich anyway, and you'll want to own them once you read them.

Spoiler that maybe? I'm sure people who have recently gotten or are just getting into this series won't want to see that shit. I don't know what rules are for spoilers in this thread, but there isn't any other thread for book readers to go to so they're going to be coming in here.

I figured it was a free for all once the material was out, like all the other threads.

I'm only a quarter through the 4th book, I've been reading the thread at my own risk.

Spoilered the posts on the other page cause molon bumped the thread, and my reply was just some general thoughts, rather than a direct reply to him.

I'm happy to spoiler tag shit though, just explaining myself.

No worries, I just find it best to spoiler tag anything that gives away plot details, or hints at events to come. I'm a little behind you, I'm finding Feast for Crows to be really slow going due to the new POVs. It always takes me a while to adjust to a new character.

End of book 3 - A whole bunch of shit happened!
Start of book 4 - Not telling you anything and idgaf

How people dealt with a 6 year wait for ADWD is beyond me, I'm struggling with jut the time it will take me to finish AFFC.

Finished AFFC and started the new one. Holy shit @ the first chapter, and then finishing it and turning to the next page and it's Dany fuck.

I mean I kind of figured that's where the story would head to at least for a while, but I've missed these guys so much.

Just finished ADWD last night. Loved it. These are mild spoilers at best, but I'll be courteous:

The ending did feel a bit rushed/clipped, particularly for Tyrion, but I understand why. I was hoping we'd see Bran again too, but again, makes sense that we didn't.

The epilogue was excellent. Varys is so badass, he's always been one of my favorites.

Jon's thing was the most immediately shocking thing in the book, but all the AA talk is reassuring.

Loved how surreal and dreamlike Dany's last chapter was.

Really looking forward to TWOW, obviously, but I'm really struggling with the fact that it could be 10+ years before we get a resolution to this series, if he doesn't die first. :(

It's GOT to be sooner though I would think. The pressure of keeping ahead of the series should hopefully keep his distractions to a minimum (one would hope). There's no way he write at a pace that would force HBO to WAIT to film the later seasons of a hit moneymaking show.

I can't even imagine all the shit that's going to go down in TWOW. I'm predicting it's going to be even more intense and much bigger mindfuck than even ASOS.

“Her own father got this child on her?” Stannis sounded shocked. “We are well rid of her, then. I will not suffer such abominations here. This is not
    King’s Landing.”

No, I've just heard people refer to both as book 5, depending on whether the books they're reading split SoS into two or not. I'm on Feast for Crows and fuck is it slow going so far.

Stop telling me that things happen, bros. I'm trying to keep as much unknown as possible. Also, I'm not skipping chapters. I'm currently enjoying Brienne's chapters, and I don't think I've had any Dany or Tyrion ones (currently 200 odd pages in?).

Even vague hints are too much, I like reading without knowing that something big will happen to a character, it gets me anxious to get to that part (even though in this case I don't even own DwD yet).

Also, 200 pages into Feast for Crows it IS pretty hard to believe anything happens :lol

ADWD is great and will be looked upon in much better favor once the next installment is out. It's close to my favorite personally (ACOK still beats it slightly though), and is his best written.

People are just pissed that it has literally 0% closure; it ends in the middle of all shits. This is the book's major flaw, but again, it won't mean anything once Vol. 6 is there waiting immediately.

there is SO much that could have been completely cut from ADWD.

    specifically
fucking Danerys. i had to practically force myself to finish almost all her chapters. i was bored to tears, and i began to really hate her. she really was just a lost little girl in way over her head, weak and incapable of accomplishing anything. which is sad, because up til then, she was a fucking badass. true "blood of the dragon" and shit. and if that's the whole point GRRM was going for, for her to be reborn from that with her dragons, ok fine. but it didn't need 600 pages to establish.

but you're probably right, it won't seem as bad when it's finished. i just hope he can finish in fine form.

I interpreted Dany's chapters as being lessons in Taoism. She wanted to be a good leader but actions always backfire. Best to accomplish by inaction and accept ones limitations. "Those that seek to control the world shall fail."

edit: I didn't think that was much of a spoiler, but I went ahead and put it in tags anyways.

That's definitely not what she learned, though, since at the end she seems convinced she can bring only suffering. Which I find acceptable. I hope she makes that khalasar her bitch, goes back and fucks up Meereen and the Yunkai without mercy, then gets her ass over to Westeros.
