fuck bitches. i told myself i would be out of this thread by the time the last thread was finished.

uhhhh why are relationships so complicated? the Taiwanese girl admitted to me last night that she likes me a lot but this is in the wake of her saying that she wants to stay single! then we had some stupid fight about nothing really and she ended up bawwing her eyes out for 45 minutes. i thought i was over her and was gonna start looking elsewhere but then today i was feeling kinda shitty about the whole thing until we made up. i think she's extremely insecure, scared of having her first boyfriend, messed up from seeing her dad cheat on her mum so often, unsure of her own feelings and emotions and too inexperienced in relationships to know how to interpret them and so she overthinks and second guesses herself on every occasion.

edit 2: the fight on the phone yesterday was interesting though because i realised i'm a bit of an egomaniac. i wasn't feeling that bad about it until today but yesterday i was just feeling powerful and strong because it wasn't affecting me that much. is that fucked up? i imagine Nolan might feel the same way if the same thing happened to him.

I have goals. Women get in the way of accomplishing them (mostly financially, but in other ways as well).

I'm currently swooning over this asian girl that is a work-study student in one of the offices across the hall. I'd say she's 21, although it's hard to tell with asian girls, she could be in her late 20s for all I know. But man, she is exactly what I find most attractive. She's like 5'0" at the most, not obese or super-skinny, normal asian small boobs, she is what I would call "plain-faced" which I find much more attractive than the idol type everyone else seems to go for. She's super sweet and soft-spoken. We talk often when I see her and she's always really nice. She always seems really interested to hear about my photography or whatever else is going on with me. I want to hug her so bad, and maybe go find kitty cats to pet with her.

People who fall back on that whole "women get in the way of accomplishing my life goals" crap 99% of the time are just backwards rationalizing their own shortcomings, unless you're training to be an astronaut, bin Laden double-tapper, olympic decathlete, or something similar. Believe me, I lead a pretty busy and productive life, and I still have plenty of time to pursue girls who can add something to my life.

Another possibility is that people who use that excuse think that it takes way more forethought and planning to maintain any sort of relationship with a woman than it actually does.

You know that's not true. I used to play guitar 8 hours a day, then I got a girlfriend. I didn't touch my guitar for like a year after that. Then she cheated on me and broke my heart, and then I had to spend all that wasted time getting better again.

So is that a function of the role that a significant other will have in the lives of everyone who gets one, or simply a mistake you made?

Also, as an aside, I've made that exact same mistake in the past and learned from it, except it was more like 3-4 hours practice a day, which I think is fine for anyone who's not a performance major.

My goals involve living in a tent the majority of the time in the wilderness and having an income just barely sufficient to rent a tiny room to keep my computer and other things (and sleep when I'm not in the wild). It involves a delicate financial balance that will be thrown completely astray by a woman. It's also not a type of lifestyle that women generally respect or want to live in for a prolonged period of time.

Besides that, I've witnessed far too much to think otherwise. My best friend, after finishing high school, decided to try out for the Marines. He earned one of the highest scores with them you can get, but before he actually committed to joining, his girlfriend decided to take it upon herself to stop taking the pill because she had decided he was "the one". My brother was into the outdoors and hiking as much as I am. We had plans to hike the Appalachian Trail, climb many mountains out west, and generally have awesome lives. He thought he could fit a woman and family into this somehow. She promised him that she was excited about getting into hiking and was looking forward to living in a cabin in Alaska and all that crap. Soon as they got married, she never went hiking with him. The hiking boots he bought for her have never been used. As soon as she popped out a kid, she was no longer happy with him going hiking (she now refers to this as him neglecting their daughter and being an asshole to her). He will never get to hike the Appalachian Trail, and will not get to do a lot of stuff, because of her. They fight all the time over everything, and he is fucking stuck forever because she popped out a kid. This is what happens when you get together with a woman. They ruin EVERYTHING.

First of all, I really respect the ideal lifestyle you've described for yourself, and I would admit that that's a pretty fringe existence. However, I don't see how casual dating is going to interfere with that. Maybe a girl won't want to marry into that situation (then again, maybe one will), but certainly you should have no problem having some fun and less serious relationships. Clearly you're not currently living in a tent, because you're typing this.

Secondly, with all due respect, your best friend sounds like a fucking chump. Let no woman, man, or anything else TELL YOU how to live YOUR LIFE. I don't care if his wife threatens to leave him, etc... it doesn't sound like a very healthy relationship anyway. There are no shackles on your friend's limbs keeping him from hiking the AT with you. This situation is a result of your friend's complete and utter lack of testicular fortitude. And furthermore, it's entirely unfair to imply that an entire gender shares the same kind of sociopathic tendencies his wife has displayed.

Seriously though, one of the reasons I totally stopped pursuing this chick was because she's constantly around other guys. I have no idea if she does anything sexual with them, nor do I have any right to know that, it just bothers me that she probably wouldn't see me as anything other than another one of those guy friends, and even if she did, she would constantly have those other guys talking shit behind my back because they also want to be seen as better than me.
