here's an official thread for all of these discussions. post about things you've bought, or want to buy, or any fashion discussion in general.
also please post just good fashion in general. i need some different shit. somebody who doesn't even know me told one of my friends that i wear the same shirt all the time
i haven't bought an article of clothing in at least a year. i randomly obtain clothes from my friends and brother (they leave them in my car or room, or i need a fresh shirt and they lend one to me and i never give it back, etc). shopping for clothes sucks big dick (i hate shopping anyway, unless it's for records or dvds or scotch). i really do need a new pair of sandals and moccasins, though, as my sandals are broken and my mocs have holes in the bottom :/
I tend to love winter clothes. Specially some of my coats and a massive scarf my grandma made for me. Recently I found an awesome maroon sweater at a salvation army store.
OH!I am a fashion consultant now for one of the lines from Macy's. It's awesome, I get to go to shows for free, and then take notes about the trends that teens seem to like the most. They have three of us right now, we get to go to Fashion week in spring '09 and fall '09. I am so effing excited! I also get free clothes and the works. It's so cool!
Right now i'm really into the menswear trends, with the old fashioned trench coats and the dark charcoal, tans, and plum colors. So far my favorite is the fitted blazers for women and the ombre patterns. The ombre is my favorite, especially in Jessica Simpsons new shoe line.
i like wearing dark jeans, pretty tight, but not skinny, with either a band t-shirt or a checkered shirt or something plus my black lacoste hoodie most of the time, might trow in a chekered scarf now it's getting nippier...
I like shirts and hoodies with simple designs like stripes or plaid. I also only wear jeans, cos I find them the most comfortable... Recently, I started wearing woolen pull-over sweaters with v-neck or round neck, nice and comfy and fuzzy.
I should pay attention to the fashion people around my dorm more, that stuff sounds real nifty. I love trenchcoats even if I'm kinda short for 'em.
whats really in for men right now that i've seen are the old style peacoats. Check out some of the Michael Kors black coats, those are really in, a fashion staple really. A lot of clothing lines put a similar style into their lines. And dark jeans with semi-fitted dark colored vests, or graphic tee's with an overshirt.
I just bought 2 pairs of cargo pants, 1 pair of jeans, a hoodie, a polo shirt, 10 pairs of socks, and 4 pairs of underwear at K-Mart. I spent $100.
in b4 Cat. Most of my clothes-buying habits seem to be limited to t-shirts. I do have a few buttoned shirts and about 5 pairs of jeans though. Also, since being in a long-term relationship for 4 years, I've acquired more pairs of shoes simultaneously than I ever have at any other time in my life.
I wear skirts a lot. D= Even to the point that someone whom I've known since April asked me if i ever wear (long) pants. .__. Else.. I'm quite into patterns of all kinds.. and really colourful clothing. :]
im in need of some sort of new winter jacket.. I really do not want to resort to the pea coat, for me they seem a bit plain/boring for what I like to wear and seem like the first resort of the uninformed dude trying to appear fashionable.
Mostly jeans or cargo pants. I wear hoodies a lot and I like wearing long-sleeve tees with short-sleeve tees over them. Makes for a nice two-tone combo. For more formal stuff, usually a collared shirt with a sweater over it. That's basically all I wear.
I bought an awesome charcoal coloured Kenneth Cole jacket the other day. It's really warm so it'll be perfect for when the horrific winter starts out here.
Bomber jackets look really nice, but you have to wear dark jeans with them to look good. Or I bet you would look great in a hooded sweater jacket with a scarf.
'ppreciate the tips.. the bomber jacket is probably a lot closer to what I'd like. what exactly do you mean by hooded sweater jacket.. pics? [edit] I like this one, at least how it looks in the first couple of pics. not as much on the mannequin. http://www.sellerinside.com/mypage/album_img//14519/0852-black.jpg and that's not really a full-out winter deal either.
Thin, stripy scarves seem to be hip. People usually just tie them and let them hang, or they come like that I dunno. Either way its just not the same
Last night I was at a party, this one dude was wearing a really thin (both in thickness of material and size of width) scarf. It was completely impractical other than being great for making you look like a giant dick. Anyways, I'd recommend a wool scarf that is thick... but try not to get the kind of material that makes your neck itchy! The best idea is to put the scarf over your shoulders and around your neck once or twice, then tuck it in your coat. so cozy
haha i've seen people like that i havent even thought of buying clothes since i bought a crappy pair of boots a month and a half ago. i hate those jackets with stripes all over
I'm actually against those types of scarves. i think they look really cheap/ Nice thick ones are what I like, they are easier to work into an outfit without being completely worthless. something like this worked in with a band tshirt and a fitted blazer would look nice to me.
Most of the clothes I buy are for work. So it's fairly typical dress clothes (ie shirts and slacks). Basically I look for stuff that's inexpensive but looks good and has nice details and texture to it. Like I got these nice brown CK corduroys a while ago for like $20, and I got a sort of cream coloured Claiborne shirt with these like woven/embossed/whatever vertical stripes in like brown and a sort of platinum colour. Hard to explain but it looks really good. And I have some black Armani tshirts that I will usually wear under something like that. I also bought a Caliborne white linen suit with these sort of braided vertical ribs for when I went to New Orleans for work back in June. And I wore that with a light blue Perry Ellis shirt, that also had soe similar ribs to it. Everyone was commenting how pimped I looked in that. Kinda sucks though because DC is way too fucking hot for a jacket (or even long sleeves) pretty much from april/may through about now, so I will never get to wear it much. But I think the whole suit (jacket/pants) cost me like $100. But yeah, usually the stuff I get is from: CK Claiborne (I love their slacks because they have this awesome pocket inside the right pocket that is perfect for a cell phone, and just because they look good and dont usually cost too much) Kenneth Cole Perry Ellis etc... One thing I do need is a nice pair of jeans. I'll probably go with CK but I havent decided yet. Oh, and for guys that are looking for jackets, I got this sweet Weather Unlimited jacket at Macy's a few months ago for like $60. It's wind/water proof with a hood rolled into the collar, and it's got pockets inside for phone, wallet, mp3 player, etc... Its sort of a flat black and goes with anything.
That would look dreadful and, dare I say, "scene". at least, scene kids around here wear those. I see guys wearing these often too, it's so bad. I say "assalamualaikum" ("peace be upon you", an Islamic greeting) every time I see one of someone wearing those cheesy scarves, they usually don't know what I'm talking about.
I'm having trouble picturing what that thing looks like on a person, but I agree the thin ones look cheap and silly
I have nothing really of interest to add to this thread, nothing I like is really relevant to you guys. I do like the suggestion of peacoats and waistcoats though I love chopping and changing from casual to formal from day to day, keeps things interesting. Or a combination of the two (shirt, tie, cardigan). Whatevers. On my list of things to buy: - Jesus sandals - More plaid shirts, but short sleeve for summer - Pastel shorts, cut reasonably high waisted and above the knee. - Round sunglasses, similar to the John Lennon thing But those sort of things everyone here will find stupid, so I can't really offer anything valuable.
Actually I have a pair of round, yellow nose-pincher sunglasses from my grandfather. I would wear them more often if I didn't already have regular glasses. Also jesus sandals are pretty slick.
Oh, and with scarves, I DO like those thin ones, they're just an accessory, and I think they look good *shrug* I wear scarves for warmth though, so I have reasonable sized ones, in black, grey, red, cream, and a HUGE one (it's like, 10ft long and a foot wide, haha) in fat striped black and white. I don't wear that one often, but it's pretty rad. Pretty much, everything fashion wise here/that i'm concerned with, is 90's revivalist. Like, early 90's. So it's all rather nostalgic atm.
it's still worth discussing just for interest's sake, rather than practical advice for anybody. so by all means...
Well, the most interesting thing to me at the moment is what's going to be popular in terms of jeans-cut in the next 6 months. It's still pretty much the same as it was last summer, so i'm not sure if it's going to change away from stovepipe, low-waisted jeans (either completely huggy like what I wear, or "antifit" which is baggy and loose to the knees, then tight down to the ankles). That said, metallic denim and metallic fabrics in general are well on their way in, and also highwaisted (part of that late 80's, early 90's revival thing) is well and truly back for girls, so whether that will translate across to men's fashion is kinda hard to say at the moment. High waisted really only looks good on some body types, and men definitely don't have the bodies to pull of TIGHT high waisted, but at the same time, it might be that jeans loosen out again to a wide, straight cut falling from the waist. I really don't know, to be honest. The most popular thing at the moment is folding up jeans with long socks underneath and shoes, all in contrasting shades. Whether that leads to jeans being cut tight, but 3/4 length, I'm not sure either. I do like it though, particularly with a coat and dress shoes.
