this show is awesome! i'm about halfway through season 1 (watching online via netflix). every episode is fantastic. really funny stuff. i love the characters, and tina fey is apparently a great writer! i recommend it. any other fans? how's season 2?
Yeah, I think it's pretty awesome and is only getting better as the series progresses. Think they're still showing season one over here.
omg i cant stop watching this show. 210 minutes straight. cant get enough. alec baldwin is amazing and i am in love with tina fey!
My favorite show on television, at the moment. Season 2 has kicked ass, so far. Kinda wish we could get more episodes for this season, though. But, yeah, Fey, Baldwin and Morgan are hysterical. Love it.
The best major network TV comedy since Arrested Development, in my opinion. Such a good show. I'm in love with Tina Fey.
i literally watched this show for 5 hours last night. i was up until 6:30 am. i just couldn't stop. it's so good! i love tracy morgan's character. the chemistry between everyone is awesome. brilliant stuff!
Terrible show. Self-indulgent attempt to keep Tina Fey, who's responsible for one of the worst eras of SNL (and is not funny), employed. Completely lacking in laughs and probably only appeals to people who love to hear and talk about "the biz." The fact that it's still on the air, despite terrible ratings, while great shows come and go shows that NBC has Lorne Michaels' cock in its mouth. Here's a hint: people don't hate it because it's too smart or artsy for them. People hate it because it's crap. And everyone who's ever given them an award should feel sorry for themselves.
couldn't disagree more, my friend. i'm not an snl fan by any means (haven't watched in years, and when i did i wasn't a big fan of tina fey's writing). but i think this show proves how talented she is as a writer. i love the characters and how the actors portray them. i don't love to talk about "the biz" and i think the show is hilarious. i kinda feel sorry for you for not liking it. and tina fey is cute.
The 3 million people who stopped watching it after the pilot episode. Show gets shit ratings and I can't wait to see it finally canceled.
american idol must the the smartest and best show ever because of its consistently high ratings. yay for the people!
I've seen the first 3 episodes of season 1 and so far it delivers decent (edit) On the Break-Up episode and it's still good
Zing. The man has a point. Ogre, since when do ratings dictate the quality of a show? Arrested Development had abysmally low viewership as well. If you don't like the show, that's fine; not everyone does. But some of the things you say are unwarranted. Also, I have to wonder how much of it you've actually seen.
The show is fantastic, indeed. I started watching it when the first episode surfaced on the net and I was blown away. Very fresh, easy-going, entertaining. The characters are interesting, the actors are doing a great job portraying them. Tina is extremely cute and sexy. I too don't like to talk about the biz, and I'm not remotely interested in it. The only part of it that I enjoy is the good shows. But this show and Studio 60 (which also got low ratings, but the people who watched it were from the "higher class" citizens of the US) are both among my all time favourite comedy shows. Also, that babe - the secretary, oh man she's so fucking hot! For the record: I've never watched SNL and I don't intend to, I was introduced to Tina Fay through this show and I think she's fantastic. One more thing - most of the shows suffer an initial loss of viewers after the pilot. It's only natural. "The first season averaged 5.8 million viewers for all 21 episodes." - this, imo, is not bad at all and only portrays the people who are willing to suffer through the commercials. Too bad internet downloads don't count, a lot of great shows could have been saved this way.
Leads me to even wondering if ogre and schwan have seen the show this season (or in the later half of last season, at that).
Matthew Broderick a recurring character on the show, now? Frickin' sweet. Another great episode this week.
Is he really going to be reoccurring? I loved his part in the finale: "Cooter because I look like a turtle, and Burger because he saw me eat a hamburger once ... It wasn't even a hamburger. It was a sandwich!"
This is a pretty decent show, but it never hooks me. I dunno, I just don't find it funny enough or the characters to be identifiable or something.
I disagree with the extremity of your criticism, but not the spirit. I really don't find this show funny at all. It's not horrible, just bland. Awkward, dull American humour that I just find tired and uninspiring. I really don't understand why it's so acclaimed to be honest. It really seems quite lame.
Exactly. It's terribly bland and aside from the occasional funny gag, nothing stands out and nothing about the show is memorable.
I just downloaded the swhole second season in HD 720p. Fuck yeah, this is going to be so awesome! I've been waiting for the whole season to air before I start watching it again.
I didn't find the show to be that funny when it originally aired. I watched the pilot and a few of the early episodes of Season 1 when they originally aired, but it wasn't doing anything for me. When Season 1 came to an end, I took a chance and watched the rest of it and the show REALLY picked up a 3rd of the way through. Season 2 started off on the right foot and hasn't gotten off track since. Liz Lemon's a likeable, off-beat character. And Jack Donaghy is the best character on the entire show. I didn't like the show in the beginning, but now its the primary show I look forward to Must-See Thursdays. When I got accustomed to the show's style and tone, that's when it really started to rub off on me. I can't wait for the DVD release of Season 2. I think some of you guys should give the show a chance. Check out a few more episodes before completely writing it off. If you already have, then so be it.
I don't understand what there is to dislike about it. It's one of the best new sitcoms I've seen for years.
Season 2 releases on DVD [ame=http://www.amazon.com/30-Rock-Season-Tina-Fey/dp/B001B9LWME/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1217491757&sr=1-1]October 7th[/ame].
I've watched the first five episodes, I think, and didn't think it was great, but so many people rave about it, and my friends (who have similar tastes) do too. I'm sure it picks up eventually, but I think if I'm not into a show after five episodes then it's just not worth my time.
Funny enough, I think it was Episode 5 ("Jack-Tor") that finally made the show click for me. If not that, it was probably Episode 7 ("Tracy Does Conan"), from which the show really took off. I can't remember a show that divided so many people into the Love-it-or-Don't-get-it groups. Either way, consider me in the "love it" camp.
This show has fast become one of my favourites. I'm really looking forward to season 3, not long to go now.
This is one of those shows where I just don't understand the criticism. I realize people have different senses of humour, but I just don't understand how people could not laugh at this show. Oh well.
I don't understand how people can. It's just off-beat wackiness with no real cleverness or insight. It's not at all surprising it springs from the SNL fraternity.
I have yet to see anything from the show that doesn't say exactly the same things just about any average (American?) stand-up comedian remark upon a score of times.
