why would anyone learn the language of the ghetto when they already know the language of prosperity ?
I speak Finnish, Swedish and English. I've also been studying Chinese for ½ years now, because I want to please our future overlords.
Lately I've been seriously thinking of learning a new language, Spanish would be the smartest choice to learn fluently but I'd love to learn French (my national heritage). Anybody try Rosetta Stone or know anybody that has? It's $300 and I am seriously thinking of buying it but that's a lot of dough. I
I once met a guy from Afghanistan who said that learning a new language is like starting a new life because it gives you an entirely different perspective on things. I think that's a great way to see it, so I say go for it. I'm lucky because I have to work with different languages in my profession. The most common ones are English, German, French, Spanish, and Russian. I can read some Dutch and pretty much all Romance languages. I've also been planning to one day learn Swedish and Esperanto, the latter because it is supposed to be really easy and I hear that the community is great.
Interesting article I came across: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/18/o...ts-of-bilingualism.html?src=ISMR_AP_LO_MST_FB apparently being bilingual makes you smarter
To add to that, I was part of a study (some tasks + MRI) in which they looked whether bilingual people are better at navigating, which was based on some other studies which some that this might be the case.
